I voted YES, I have an actual functional dishwasher.

And to that I will also add: I would not live in a house that didn't have one.

I guess we must have more dishes than other two-person families because I hardly ever have to take anything out of there to wash by hand out of necessity :confused3.

That's what confused me, too. My everyday dishes are service for twelve and you had better believe will fill up and run that dishwasher before I take anything out of it to had wash.

I run my dishwasher every other day for a family of three.

I voted and did'nt read a post on here. There is a downfall using a dishwasher if you are not hooked up to city sewage.IT WILL CLOG YOURE SEPTIC TANK.....

If you are hooked up that way, then no worry. But in my house, with a septic tank,my hands are not broken or the rest that lives in my house!!!

You dirty it,you clean it..

OP, I do not own a dishwasher. I actually enjoy doing dishes by hand. :) I think I would rather have extra cabinet space than a dishwasher.

:confused3 If your dishwasher is 'clogging' your septic tank maybe you should be rinsing your dishes more? I can't imagine that the dishwasher fills the septic any faster than normal use of water and having a clothes washer would.

We have septic and a dishwasher. Our septic gets pumped out on a regular basis (every other year) and we've never had any probelms at all.

My hands are not broken either, but I think that dishes in the dishwasher come out cleaner (my dishwasher super heats my water to a temperature that I could not use when handwashing), and a dishwasher actually uses less water than handwashing.

Yep. It runs every other day or so.

I agree with the PP ... water gets hotter than you could wash it yourself AND it uses LESS water.

No. I had one in my first house....loved it. Had one in my second house - it never ever worked right, so we got used to doing it all by hand.

Now in my third house....the way the kitchen is set up...no room for one. So, we do them all by hand. DH and I switch off days. Today was his day :)

I don't think I've ever lived in a house without one. I use it daily if not more.

I wouln't live in a house now that didn't have a dishwasher. I grew up in a home without one, and we did dishes by hand. I hated it!
Then in my apartment days, I had a roll-around dishwasher, and used it all the time.
Our house had one when we bought it, and we use it daily for our family of 3.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that dishes just aren't truly clean unless they've run through the dishwasher.

Yep, we have one. I don't use it....not for my LOVE of standing around washing dishes for my family of four BUT because it's just not working correctly anymore. The dishes get done and a good deal of them don't look clean. We're not buying a new one anytime soon so I just gave up on it and have been washing by hand since about June. Trust me, I do a better job than the dishwasher.

No Dishwasher and my hands show it. I hope to get a portable one in the next 6 months. I HATE not having one. It is especially bad after having one for 8 years and then buying a house w/o one.

I wish we had one. We have plenty of dishes and glasses to fill the dishwasher. I have been contemplating taking out one of the lower cabinets and getting one of those narrow dishwashers.

I would eat boxed Mac n cheese and Ramen for every meal if I had to to have a dishwasher!!!

A dishwasher is a must for me too. It's just DH and me, but we still fill it up and run it every other day or so --- my DH can easily use 4 or 5 different glasses in a day, so the top rack is always filled. We handwash all our pots and pans, but the dishwasher still gets filled up quickly.

I have two, I call them my children! :lmao:

But, actually, I'm curious. How many people own actual automated dishwashers? Me, I've never owned one in my life.

I voted yes, and my husband hand washes them sometimes too! I hate it when he "washes" they never are clean so I end up running them through the DW when he is not looking:rolleyes1, I know he tries, but he just doesn't realize that a brush does not clean everything, you sometimes need a dishcloth for things like glasses and to wipe off the bottom of the pots and pans:headache:

I missed my dishwasher so much this summer. I visited my grandma (in Europe) for 2 weeks and she has a small kitchen without a dishwasher. It takes up so much room on the counter to "dry" the dishes and I don't feel it's very sanitary washing them in the sink all together without frequently changing the water.

I love my machine it has a sanitize feature, plus it saves me so much time!
