I have two, I call them my children! :lmao:

But, actually, I'm curious. How many people own actual automated dishwashers? Me, I've never owned one in my life.

I MUST have one. It's a necessity, up there with a shower and electricity. Not out of laziness, but because I like my dishes to be as clean as they can get.

The home we purchased came with one. There are onlyl two of us, so I don't feel the need for it. If I do use it, I want to use half the dirty dishes in it before it's full enough to warrant running it.

No, we don't. Never have, actually.

Our first home was a shoebox of a place with no real amenities, and a tiny galley kitchen.

Our second was a 1930s fishing cottage that was added on to, and although it was a nice size the kitchen was quite small with limited storage, so we never felt like a dishwasher was worth the cabinet we'd have to give up to install it.

And our current/forever home is a 130 year old Victorian that I'm slowly redoing in period styles. The kitchen remodel is way down the list because the it is huge and well laid out, just needs costmetics, and the only way I'd put in a dishwasher is if we get the kind that doesn't look like a dishwasher because I want to keep the old farmhouse kitchen look.

I don't remember ever not having one and I can't imagine life without one. I guess that's pretty sad but it's the truth! :goodvibes

Had one installed when we built our house 23 years ago. Used it once. I have been washing everything since, so our dish washer is now 60 years old.

Same here. I get on a kick sometimes and decide to stop washing by hand...to use the nice dishwasher we bought. I don't make it a full day before I'm going into the dishwasher and pulling out dirty dishes, washing them by hand to use immediately. With 2 people, it just takes too long to get a full load.

We have had one in every house we have owned. I couldn't imagine not having one. We're about to have 6 kids and there are many days it gets run twice.

I once had an apartment in college that didn't have a dishwasher and I vowed to never live anywhere again without one!

Now, with my own home cake decorating business, I'd go absolutely insane without one.

Yep, we got one when we moved earlier this year. At first I though we would rarely use it because it's just the two of us, but we use it every day or every couple of days.

We have never had one in any of the houses we have ever lived in. Should I also confess we have never owned a coffee maker and I have no idea how to make coffee?

My DH does the dishes unless I am on a cooking spree and then I will wash as I use.

We have 5 (kids, not dishwashers), and couldn't imagine not having one. I am ashamed to admit that we go through a lot of paper plates and plastic cups, because I got tired of running and emptying it twice a day!

We have one, but I can count on my hands the number of times we have used it since we remodeled our kitchen.

It's used on Thanksgiving, during Christmas baking, and my husband uses it to sterilize his homebrewing equipment and bottles.

It runs FOREVER, needlessly as far as I am concerned. The whole time, all I see are the gas, water and electric bills! ;)

My very least favorite chore is washing dishes. I'd rather scrub the toilet than wash dishes. I'm allergic to something in most dishwashing liquids, so I have to wear gloves when I wash them. Pain in the neck.

Anyway, we got our first dishwasher about 6 or 7 years ago in a rental house we lived in. It was a portable and I never used it for anything except an extra surface. It was just too much of a pain to load it up, then hook it up and not be able to use the sink for 2 hours. The house we bought in 2007 had a built in dishwasher and we use it daily. I couldn't do without it!

There are just two of us, and we run our dishwasher about twice a week. I guess we must have more dishes than other two-person families because I hardly ever have to take anything out of there to wash by hand out of necessity :confused3.

I'm really surprised that so many people either don't have one or don't use it. I'm 47 and we had one growing up. The only time I haven't had a dishwasher was when I lived in Germany.

There's only DH and I but it still gets run almost every day. I do a lot of cooking, I guess. :confused3
