Oh, I think we should have a DIS contest. Everyone can surprisingly show up at CamColt's door and see who catches her at worst time. Anyone in?

CamColt has a pool? That makes it even better. Not only can we drop in unexpectedly to swim, but we can also make her feed us because everyone I know who has a pool gets stuck feeding their guests :)

I have a friend that never gives me warning of when she is coming. Sometimes she will call from the cell phone while she is driving down the street, but thats usually it. There have even been a couple of times when she has woken me up with the doorbell (the kids and I sleep in sometimes when we've been up late.) It doesn't bother me from her because she is a really good firend and I don't care if I'm in my pj's and my house is a wreck.

But dh's grandmother tends to just show up at our door too and it is almost always while I am cooking dinner. She ends up talking to us all while we eat, but won't join us for dinner. It is a little uncomfortable to me. Oh well, I guess its better than not seeing her at all.

Sounds good to me. It will be when we decide to show up, and of course, we will overstay our welcome ;) So, you better make sure you have steak tips, chicken, burgers, hot dogs, salad, soda, and beer in for 60,000 at all times ;)

Try having a brand new baby!!! I'm amazed by the people who just show up to see her and while I'm excited to have visitors and eager to show her off there's no telling what we're up to at any minute. I have ignored the doorbell just a few times....like when I'm nursing or resting. I will go to the window and check who it is and then decide if it's worth my time.

This has got to be my biggest pet peeve!!! I work full time and I have 3 year old twins and a seven year old and there is no telling what my house will look like at any given time. Even if I just cleaned that day, there is no telling! I need at least 20 mins notice to shovel the toys, papers, bookbags, etc into another room.
My best friend is the total opposite. She loves people to stop by unexpectedly.

Oh, and I have a pool too!;) , and a trampoline.;)

Karen, that is sooo true!! I had a pool in my old house and family members were always dropping by to swim. Some would at least call first. Anyway, I always had to have snacks & stuff ready because they do expect you to feed them. I will give my SIL kuddos though, she always brought her own snacks with enough for us also.

Im going to the store now. ;)

So I guess there are some people who appreciate the element of surprise with guests, but Im glad to see Im not alone in being...a bit concerned(ok, obsessive) about how the house and I look. :D

My sister calls before she comes over, but she generally calls from her car about a mile from my house. She "asks" if it's okay, but she always has some big, dramatic reason why she has to come over. The other day it was because her DS (13 months) had wet his diaper, and it was too wet to change in the car or in a public restroom. I wanted to see her, but she lives about 45 minutes away. She could have at least called as she was pulling out of her driveway instead of waiting until she could practically see my driveway.

Well, don't worry about cleaning for me. I don' t like going into a house that is spotless. We all live busy lives. So what if there is dust on the coffee table, and a stack of newspapers in the living room? Show me a house that is a bit messy, and it feels lived in. Show me a spotless house, and I'm afraid to touch anything.

Only person that drops by and rings my bell without advanced notice better be Ed McMahon and Dick Clark carrying a big honking check from the Publishers Clearinghouse!!::yes:: ::yes:: :teeth:
