Do You Hate When...

...Someone shows up at your house unexpected?

I could scream right now. I started doing my nails tonight and all that junk is on the counter with the newspaper, the kids school papers...all kinds of junk. Im in my PJs and glasses(not a pretty sight). Well, the PTO president just showed up at our door. We are working on a fundraiser for the school together, so thats why hes here, but stilll! DH has him upstairs(with the mess) going over some stuff, but Im stuck down here in hiding! UGH! And not only that, but I feel rude for not going up and saying hello.

So, my word of advice for the day...call before showing up at someones house.

Yes I hate that too. I only get to pick up stuff in the house when the baby is sleeping. If he sees you cleaning he makes it his personal mission to take everything out I just put up , top that with a 4 year old and 2 messy teenagers and it aint pretty
I prefer notice so I can atleast pick up some stuff.

One of my friends does this ALL the time. Since she has a habit of doing it, I figured she would have no problem if someone did it to her. One time, I told her that I was near her house and thought about stopping by. She said never to do that, to call first. Really?

The last time she showed up at my house, I didn't answer the door.

Friend or no friend, that's one of my biggest pete peeves~I believe in respect,and coming to my home without calling, I mean everyone has a cell phone now a days..
show some respect!!!!! I would NEVER just "pop" over a friends'-
That's why I am glad we bought a home with 2 car garage!
Garages, they come in soooooo handy!!!!

I hate that, too. REALLY hate it. I had it happen recently--I was home from work sick, and an old acquaintance stopped by because he was in the area. Um...I haven't seen you in 2 years, and you think just popping by is okay? I couldn't believe it. At least it reminded me why I haven't made any effort to get together with him in 2 years. I finally kicked him out when he started going on and on about how "annoying" he thinks mentally challenged people are. Ugh. Oh, that and his grand plan to "get back" at the oil company whom he believes was responsible for denting his car (even though he didn't see it happen).

Some of my DH's relatives do this. I hate it, and Dh doesn't care for it much, but tolerates it.

He is Arab, and in their culture, this is common and acceptable, especially with him and his family, as he comes from a fairly small town over their.

Though, most of his relatives have come to understand and respect that I really HATE the "pop in" visit, and that maybe, being a married couple, we might be otherwise "busy" if we are at home together, and not in the mood for a visit! But I think it's rude under any circumstances, and they don't do it as much now as when we first got married, thank goodness.

However, we're moving to an area where many more of his relative live...people we haven't seen on a daily basis for awhile...I hope it doesn't turn ugly!

Glad to see Im not alone.
When its someone like a neighbor or close family I dont mind so much, although, MIL who used to make a habit of it found out I didnt like it very much and stopped. But this guy isnt really close to us. We only know him through school & the PTO. Im actually embarrassed about what the house looked like and that I wasnt decent enough to "welcome" him in my home. I feel like I was the rude one to him by hiding downstairs. I think that is what bothers me the most.

Yes. I hate it big time. I'm an only child and I'm not used to having a house full of people. It's enough for me to figure out how to entertain people when I KNOW they're coming, but if they surprise me, I'm lost.

Being the "exciting" people that we are these days, the surprise would be on whoever dropped by past 730pm because it seems lately, that's when we get into our jammies! I also don't like uninvited guests but have had it happen to me a couple of times. My house is never in order when I have a surprise guest too. I also have a toddler & he messes everything up with his toys but he's supposed to do that. I just feel embarrassed when someone sees the big mess.

That PTO guy was really inconsiderate in my opinion for just dropping by. Your DH should tell him on his way out that he'd appreciate a call next time around!

My MIL has NEVER called before coming to our house. Not only doesn't she call, she also doesn't knock. Just walks right in. I live in a small, incredibly safe neighborhood and didn't lock my back door. No amount of talking to this woman makes her change her behavior. What I do now is keep all my doors locked at all times. She still doesn't call, but now she can't walk in on me.

I hate this too! The father of my son's best friend does this all the time! They are divorced and he "has" his son on Tuesdays and Sundays. He ends up "stopping by" 3 out of 4 Sunday's mid-morning and will stay for hours. Also about an hour after school get's out on Tuesdays. I have often spent time "hiding" in the bedroom. DH has asked him to call first and now and then he actually does call, maybe about a third of the time, the rest of the time he apologises for just "stopping by" but he was always "just in the neighborhood" It's gotten to be that I get up on Sunday and feel like I have to straighten up the house and be decent (no lounging around in sweats with the Sunday paper) just in case.

I must say I totally disagree with most of you. I think it´s great when friends pop in. Sure enough the house isn´t always sparkling, but who cares anyway?

I think most of our lives are becoming too over-organized and the wonderful surprise of a friend dropping in, just adds some spice to it.

If it absoloutly is bad timing you should always be able to tell your friends so without any problems.

I hate this!!! My MIL also walks right in without calling or knocking. I once had a parent of one of my students come into my house at night without knocking He knows my husband, but still, I felt a little wierd sitting in my pajamas talking to one of my student's parents

I hate it! It never fails, that when my house is a mess, someone will drop by. When the house is clean, no one visits.

I don't mind it too much when people show up unexpectedly. While it is nice to have advanced notice, any company is always a pleasant experience for me
