Do you get your child's teacher anything for xmas?

The best response I ever received to that question was from a teacher. She said......"something that goes away".....i.e., candy, cake, flowers, plants.

There are only so many coffee cups one person can own.

I also do a group gift certificate to a local mall or an American Express certificate.

Yup, usually a gift certificate. This year my son has a male teacher, and I know he loves to read, so we're getting him a gift certificate to Barnes and Noble.

They are all getting small ornaments to enjoy at home on their tree for years (she has something like 9 teachers).

they are getting ornaments this year. in the past they have received consumable gifts too.

DS's teacher loves Elvis, so we got her a 2003 Elvis calendar, plus we made the cookie/brownie mixes in a jar so she will get one of those too.

We did the teacher themed knick knack thing and candy one year, but have decided that gift certificates are the best way to go for the last few. They can always use them and you can get them in any denomination.

I'll confirm that we love gift certificates, ornaments, and consumables. I still have ornaments from my first year of teaching 19 years ago, and I think of those children each year when I hang the ornaments on my tree. I must admit that I did love it a couple of years ago when a group of parents got me a $75 Disney Store gift certificate!

We do appreciate the kind thoughts behind any gift!:D

The kids and I make gingerbread houses for their teachers each year, I am baking the pieces at this very moment.

Another teacher piping in:D My favorite gifts have been notes from parents telling me how much their child loves school and thanking me for my efforts, and things children have written or drawn. I have a picture of my cat that a student drew for me one year (the kindergarteners love to hear my stories of my cat whose middle name is Trouble). I framed the picture, and it is hanging in my hallway. Another treasure of mine is a handmade card with the words " I love you " written by a student from Central America who spoke no English at the beginning of the school year:)

My cousin who teaches third grade says gift certificates are her favorite!

I don't now that each of the kids have six or seven teachers, but when they each had just one teacher I would get them a $15 gift certificate for First Watch a breakfast/lunch only restaurant here. $15 is about what it would cost for two to eat there. The teachers seemed to like this!

Hunter's teacher likes to scrapbook so we are getting her a gift certificate to our favorite scrapbooking store. :) I do a gf or money.

Ok if I go with a gift certificate, which is the best one to get? One to someplace like Barnes&Noble or to a movie theatre, or a department store, etc?

When I worked in NC, one of my students gave GC to a movie theatre. I loved it!!

My son's teachers are getting GCs this year. I'm not sure if I'm going to get GCs for the movies or for Applebee's or Juniors.

DSs 5th grd teachers are "team teaching" so this year I had 2 teachers to buy for. We bought them the Mickey flag pin from America/EpCot. Not THE Mickey pin but one with him holding up the flag.

The teachers here prefer to receive things for the class.

So, I have 100 pencils for each class, new markers and crayons, some new books for the second graders and a gift card to Staples.

if you have a parent/teacher supply store nearby a gift certificate to that would be very appreciated.
last year was the only year my DS attended public school and i was shocked to learn that the teachers have to buy all the stuff for their classroom.
