Do You Get Special Accomodations for the SAT if you have a Learning Disability?

My ds is 9 and has been diagnosed with ADHD. He currently receives special services and accomodations from his school, including accomodations for standard tests, mainly extra time and a room free from distractions.

I realize its a ways off until he takes the SAT, but I was just surious to know if they offer similar accomodations for SAT testing? Just looking ahead to the future!

I believe they can make "reasonable" (what they consider reasonable and what you do may not agree) accomodations for the test for students with learning disabilities, and I *believe* the procedures for that are spelled out in the registration info. You can check out the collegeboard website (I can't remember whether it's .com or .org, but with the amount of money they make on tests I'm guessing .com) to see if they have information on it there. They should, since most registration now occurs online. I have no idea what specific accomodations they make are, or what they make them for, but I do remember skipping over a section in one of the brochures about that

They will give what he gets in school and they will check with his High School to confim. So if he gets extra time ect they will allow him to have that for the SAT.

As a side not College Board is a non-profit and breaks even for them most part on the cost of the test the cost to take it increased because on the additional cost to score the essay section

Your DS might be a little too young now, but here is a resource that is handy for preparing for the SAT test (start this when he starts high school):
SAT Question of the Day
You can actually sign up for this and receive a new question each day via email. You receive a math question about every 4th day when you sign up for the question of the day, otherwise they seem to be vocabulary type questions.

The math questions might be a little bit of a stretch until he has been exposed to algebra. Since you are thinking ahead, here is something to keep in mind: the more math you take, the easier the math questions are to answer (relatively speaking ) --the key is to take math classes early and keep taking math throughout HS. If he can get into Algebra I in 8th grade and keep building from there, he will be in a good position to take the SAT in his junior year.

DH & I will sign up for the SAT "question of the day" so that DD11 can try them out. She's in 7th grade (skipped a grade) & is in Algebra 1 this year.

I'm sure she will do better at the math questions than I.

Yes you do get special accomodations for a learning disabilty for SAT. it depends on what high school go to. We is talking 10 years ago now my high school offer a special education SAT test time for all the sprecial ed students. I got take it at the special ed time because I was in sp ed english. Boy did make a difference in my scores.

Plus he should be able to get all the extra time he needs to take any test the state gives for him to gradution high school. I know for a fact that have give extra time for kids with LD to take test.

It's the only way I would got my high school diploma. Considering that I had take english part 8 times before I pass it. It's good thing let start taking the test in 9th grade.

from what i remember, for most disabilities is high school and college and whatnot you get time and a half. so if you are given 60 minutes to complete a section they would now give you 90 minutes.
