In Jan of 2013 it was in the 80s the whole time. We swam, went to a water park, and had to escape the heat. But there weren't crowds, the heat wasn't as intense, and we all enjoyed our time much more. The only ride closed was Splash Mountain.
We often go in February, and even with presidents week crowds, we much prefer it to summer. In February we can pretty much go from opening to close without being exhausted, whereas we are pooped by noon in the heat. Also, we can save time by doing more QS meals when it's cooler... In the summer we tend to eat only TS because we need long breaks in air conditioning.
Definitely prefer the "winter" weather and crowd levels. I wish they did more late nights (midnight or better) at that time of year as we're very much a stay up late family, but even without that it feels like a better experience for us.
I dunno. I just can't bring myself to swim when it's below 70.
In Jan 2014, it was SO cold, the pool had great billowing clouds of steam in the morning. The first morning I saw it I assumed a large steam pipe had burst. Nope, just the pool. We sometimes use the hot tub on cold days. On many winter days the pools stay pretty empty.
There's a local(ish) resort we often visit in the winter with an indoor/outdoor pool where we've been swimming outside with air temperatures below freezing many times. As long as you're in the water and the wind isn't howling the air temperature doesn't matter too much. When you want to get out that can be another story... Of course we're from Minnesota so "cold" doesn't mean quite the same thing here as it does in Orlando where the all-time record low is just on the cool side of brisk at 19F .
