Do you get dressed up for a doctor's appointment?

I am getting ready to head out to an appointment and I am wearing khaki shorts and a polo shirt. I remember long ago that my mom used to get dressed up in a dress and heels to go to the doctor, as was the norm back then. Do you get dressed up when you have a medical appointment?

At least I put on a little make-up!

If it's a routine appointment, yes. If I'm going because I'm sick or injured then no, I go as is.

I always shower before going, put on a little makeup and wear something nice. However, that's normally what I do; even when I'm home, at school or just to run errands.

I worked in a medical group many years ago and most of the doctors did make comments and judgments based on patients' clothes, but most commonly in regards to personal hygiene. Some of the comments were really inappropriate, IMO.:headache: Comments that they should have kept to themselves and not shared with the staff. :headache:

It depends on a couple of things..
1. How I feel- if I'm sick you can bet I'll be there in my PJs and unbrushed teeth.
2. If the doctor is cute..
3. How long I'm going to be there

Most of the time, I'm going to be spending a couple of hours waiting around (military docs never seem to run on time) so I wear something comfy, like jeans and a teeshirt. It's normally cold in the Naval Hospital so I bring a hoodie or something along those lines.

Oh, hell no. I get so pissed off at them for making me wait so long, making me come in for EVERYTHING and rushing me in and out that I could care LESS what they think of me. A co-pay for a lab visit? Really?:sad2:

Heck no. He doesn't usually SEE me in my clothes ;):lmao:

I seriously doubt that someone wearing dress pants and a blouse will receive better treatment than someone waring sweat pants and a t-shirt.

Studies will prove you wrong;)

People treat people better when they have a more polished, educated look.

It might not be ethical to do so, but it is true.

Yes, I do dress nicely for a doctor's appointment. My mom always did - still does - and I guess I grew up following her example. Unless I really don't feel well - but even then I'll shower and attempt a little make-up. For some reason, when I'm feeling sick, a shower usually makes me feel a little bit better.

I think it would be common courtesy to shower and brush your teeth :thumbsup2

After all, another person is going to be looking at your throat or examining you closely.

Depends on how sick I am. If I sick, I bathe and put on comfortable clothes. Otherwise, I wear dress casual. I don't know why, but I do.:confused3

I don't dress up in general.

But even if I did I'm not going out of my way to dress up for someone that I'm paying. His comfort isn't anywhere near as important as mine.

And when I go to the dentist, I'm practically in my jammies because I hate going so badly that I need to be comfortable.

Well, I take a shower and make sure I have on nice underwear and my "better" casual clothes (ie-no rips, stains etc.), but I don't go in a dress & high heels.

I think my son's pediatrician is hot so I do tend to get a little dressed up when I take them for their well visits...my husband teases me about it and of course I'd never admit my crush.

Well that would depend on if I was going there to date him or to pay for an office visit! If its for an office visit its come as you are- if I happen to be stopping on my way home from work its jeans, tshirts and work boots!
