We prefer to fly. We live near Sacramento and we can make it to DL in 6 or 7 hours depending on traffic but I gave up my SUV due to the expense of gas and now only have a camry and with 5 in our family it is just WAY too crowded in that small car for such a long drive. We used to borrow my parents suv but I don't feel comfortable doing that anymore as their car is getting older. Plus we like being able to get on a plane and BE there in about an hour. It saves so much time! It was nicer when we could get cheap flights but I admit it IS getting pretty expensive but still the convenice of it is so worth it! If the airfare gets TOO outrageous we may have to go back to driving especially since my oldest daughter probably won't be able to go much longer and then it will just be the 4 of us going.
We shall see. I do prefer flying though if I can but don't mind driving if I have to.
I would LOVE to fly, but the cheapest tickets would run us about $200 per person (total about $800-$900) but to drive would be about $300. It's going to be a long 15 hours though
My DH hates flying so we drive. We come from the northwest part of Washington and it takes about 19 hours of driving. We usually do it in 2 days, but we are taking DD4 and DD2 this time so we planned 3 days to get there. Plus, I've been on plenty of road trips so I enjoy them. Sometimes half the fun is getting there.
