Ok.......I'd love to be able to drive to WDW, but our vehicles are not the most reliable, so flying for us makes more sense. However, where can I find reasonable flights for 4? I've tried out of Toronto, and the ticket prices are good ($59 one way), but the TAXES are unbelievable!!! I don't understand how the TAX can be more than the total ticket :furious: For example, that $59 ticket, came to over $285 dollars once the tax was applied??

So, does anyone know of good deals out of Detroit or Buffalo for late November of this year???? Or would it make more sense to rent an "unlimited mileage" vehicle from Michigan?? Suggestions please!!

We fly. We are in the same position as you our cars are old and I would not trust them for the trip also my DH does not get paid for time off work so we find it cheaper to fly then take a longer time off.
As for cheaper flights we love Southwest airlines out of Buffalo the flights are cheaper and the taxes are much less. Last year we got an amazing deal on tickets $75 taxes in roundtrip each.
For 5 of us it was $375. I think that is the taxes on one ticket flying out of Toronto.

Good luck with your decision!

Only fly now and always out of BUf with SWA.

Where did you find that $75 deal?? WOW!!! That would be perfect for us. Please share you secrets!!

I just kept on checking many times a day and they had an AWESOME seat sale!
I checked last year I kept an eye for the dates we will be flying this year and they ranged in price from Ding! fares from 36.00 each way to an internet fare to 45.58.
I will hold out for a great sale again.
I had orginally booked for $79.00 last time and then it dropped to $59 then $49 then a big drop to $26.98. (+ taxes) each time I stayed on the same flight and each time I got the money refunded to my CC. I LOVE SW.
I will use them again! :cloud9:

I just checked the SWA site and they don't have any fares past August....so I guess I'll have to wait to see if I'm as lucky (and as smart) as you!!! Thanks for the great tips!! :cool1:

What are you dates? you say "late November" Are you going over the American Thanksgiving? If so then you have to book early and your chances of getting a really sale is not as much.Although I booked a friend last year (on SW) for that weekend for $41.00 each way so it is possible.

We are going December 7-15 and that was the history that I was checking last year for the prices listed above.

Who was the $59 with from Toronto? My IL's are coming with us and fil has said he'd prefer to fly out of TO if we could get a decent price..... not my family though.... we are definatly going to keep watching Southwest for October.

We are NOT going for the american thanksgiving.......the crowds are too big for us......so as it stands our dreams start on November 27 and end December 6 or 7 . Dh wants to stay at PORFQ or PORR or CBC. Last time we stayed at ASMo and it was great, but he is looking for a change and something a bit nicer. Again, thanks so much for the tips. I sure hope we can get a similar deal!!

We fly out of Pearson. We live so close to the airport and fine the Canadian airlines to our liking. However, I would like to try SW from BUF and driving some day! :cool1:

I have found flights out of Pearson for $59..........but then you have to add the tax of $247 (or some rediculous price that like). $59 total out of Pearson I think is a Canadian DREAM!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

We drive when we look at the cost of flying compared to the cost of driving it makes far more sence for us to drive plus the kids love being in teh car and truly enjoy the drive to WDW. For our family our holiday starts the minute we get in the car to head down the road for Disney. We can drive for less than half the cost of flying so for us it is a no brainer.

If you can get a $49 SWA Ding...then that is definitely the way to go.
We just got back last week from using SWA out of Buffalo and it was breeze (everything from the border crossing, customs, hetl overnight stay, parking etc).

We have driven and actually don't mind the drive but since the van is getting older have been flying out of Buffalo on Southwest. Download Ding to get the best deals. We've flown for as little as $29 each way -- and the taxes are much, much less flying out of Buffalo.

We're renting a car to drive down there. Our vehicles are a minivan that I don't trust to make the drive, and an SUV that doesn't have enough space for everybody to ride comfortably.

We are renting a full size premium luxury sedan (whatever that is -- the biggest sedan we could choose from) and it is going to cost us about $400 for 10 days (I think -- there are so many prices and estimates floating around my head :confused3 ) -- a minivan was over $700 and they couldn't guarantee the seating configuration, so I decided to not reserve one of those.

I live between Flint and Detroit; hopefully that will help you with your decision a little bit. :goodvibes

the flights out of buffalo on south west in may and june are $54.00 each way its is still up today for may and june if you get it soon we got may 27 to june 2 for $278.00 for 2 round trip non stop

you already know that we drive. We have been pricing flights, and the best we have seen is $850 USD out of Detroit. Add another $40 for gas, a hotel in Detroit the night before... and the $500 for gas and hotels looks better.

We do both. We have flown and driven almost the same amount of times. We just purchased our first van :sad2: (good bye sports cars....) This purchase was to give us more room for disney trips as well as be helpful for more space need for a growing family. If we were to fly again we definately would be flying out of buffalo for sure with the rates we keep getting from SW. I don't mind the 24 hr drive to Disney as once we pass through the gates the magic takes away the tiredness!
