Do You Fear For Your DVC Membership?

Not true at all. A number of the involved employees (over 10% from the reports I've seen) went ahead and have already moved to FL, attracted by the lower cost of living (especially housing) and culture.
100% true. No reports necessary, I have family and friends at DLR (casting and ops management), the studio, animation, and over in Glendale. The VAST majority of Imagineers did NOT want to move. The few that did, did so because they possess a highly unique skill set that doesn't readily translate into readily finding similar positions. California wages for Florida COL certainly helped with the sting. There were no tears shed over on Grand Central Avenue yesterday.

Not to mention the quoted 10% doesn't exactly represent a vast majority. From the time the Lake Nona campus was announced the general sentiment I've seen from WDI employees is that they didn't want to relocate to Florida and were incredibly unhappy with the decision. Didn't a handful even resign or retire rather than having to relocate?

Yes, they did. Many also took early retirements. The younger CM's, faced with either moving to Florida or losing what, for just about any human being alive, would be an absolute dream job, bit the bullet and agreed to move.

Keep in mind too, that a small percentage of the 2,000 jobs scheduled to move to Florida were from DPEP departments not affiliated with WDI, and THOSE non-creatives likely didn't anticipate any negative impact from the move away from the studio and So Cal. Some of those 10% of the total number may not even have been WDI CM's.

If Disney leaves Florida, we are all hosed. But I just don't see that happening. The rest of this stuff is just political fighting for the dollars at the margin.

I'm actually more worried technology will evolve past theme parks, making WDW as a concept obsolete. That seems like a real threat.

People are always going to want to travel, no matter how good VR headsets get.

With all of the lawsuits, inflation, and flat sales at WDW, do you fear for your membership? Disney is having cash issues, they just canceled Galaxy Star Cruiser ( or what ever the name is) and now is canceling relocation of Disney employees to the Lake Nona area.

One has to wonder how these current and possible future changes/ cutbacks may affect our DVC ownership. It all surely has me pausing from making any further purchases for DVC. Thoughts?
I would classify my feelings as being on alert and should be very concerned. Are guests booking the cabins and the bungalows?

OT, but if DVD were to sell Aulani (for example), what happens? Do the points owners get a share of the selling price? Or all they all just screwed? I assume that this is in the POS, but I don't remember reading it.
Any sale by DVD is subject to the lease. IOW, the new "owner" would have to honor the terms of the lease (or also buy the individual's interest in the lease if the individuals agreed to sell their interest in the lease). Aulani would no longer be part of DVC and thus the points would only by good at Aulani (or where ever the new owner allowed trades).

No kidding. I have personal experience with these sorts of corporate moves..

The point is that some are very excited and prefer the new location and move immediately. A similar number on the other side of the bell curve will dig in and stay on the west coast no matter what.

Most will complain, moan, threaten...usually because they don't want change, but ultimately will go along.

Doesn't matter if it's a banking merger or this Disney situation, that's always the way it goes.

The other point is that the original move was threatened based on politics. While this change has politics as a factor, Disney's stock price has also nearly been cut in half since July 2021, which is the primary driver, regardless of who has the most appealing anecdotes.

Not really. Disney is doing all these things to avoid financial issues in the future, not because they're in big financial troubles now. I'd be more worried if they weren't doing anything to protect themselves. About the political stuff.. not a fan of what's happening but I doubt it will be a problem in the long term.

And in the unlikely scenario Disney and DVC go bankrupt, it'd mean the economy is in such a bad shape that my contracts will be the least of my worries.

Nah not worried. SWGS was already failing; just getting rid of deadwood. Move to Lake Nona was a stupid idea in the first place. Disney is taking action to ensure it stays afloat right now as they navigate economic climate, political climate, and stupid purchases they made (Fox, etc.). They'll be fine. Outside of relocating out of Florida, I have no worries. Only thing that concerns me with DVC is what happens in 2042 hahaha

It will be interesting to see how attendance is for the rest of the year. Consumer debt has steadily risen. The economy has not felt the true effects of the interest rate hikes ( this will be a lagging indicator). We are approaching an election year where nothing will get changed. Just how resilient the consumer will be is the question.

WDW is anticipating that and have been reselling APs and other incentives. Time will tell but I have a feeling the parks won’t be empty.

Won’t be empty but won’t be crazy crowded like they have been either.

That’s bizarre! I didn’t know my signatures were not displayed. I usually only access dis boards on my phone and cannot see any of that for anyone. I wonder if it is a setting? I will have to look at it on a computer. An x? I cannot see it at all. Is that from moderators? I’ve definitely gotten a couple of warnings over the years since I am pretty unfiltered lol. That’s cool though. Not complaining. 😊
I have it too.
