Do You Expect to Sell Eventually?

I don't see us ever selling. My son has special needs and our first visit with him was...magical. We felt like a normal family because of the way we were treated and the accommodations made for him.

We have found that as time goes on our vacation interests have changed. We don't visit the parks as much anymore and we enjoy resort vacations and we are also taking more non Disney cruises. We sold some contracts and bought others as our home resort favs changed. Our adult children have little interest in taking over our contracts so that won't happen.

Sadly DVC has allowed us to see behind the Disney curtain and caused some of the Walt magic to fade. We have learned that Disney will do what's good for Disney, while telling you that it's good for you.

Losing Walt magic for us would have been staying either offsite or at best Value in comparison to what we got with DVC.

That and throwing tens of thousand of dollars away on cash stays.

We've also sold some for more than we paid and most of the dues on those contracts, basically staying for Deluxe for free.

Then picked up even more when they dropped over a few time periods. Now those are up even further.

50 years is/was a long time. That's partly why we watched the resale markets, and which resorts we liked-as well as what the family morphed into.

Our kids have 100% interest in still going and they are in their 20's, so that makes a difference I suppose. BWV with them next week, and BCV end of March.

Zero regrets with DVC. By far the best WDW related thing we have ever done.

That’s why the continuing attempts to chip away at resale and the skyrocketing direct prices are so disappointing to me. Even though we sold, DVC was absolutely not a mistake or a regret on our part. It was one of the smarter things we’ve ever done when it comes to real estate transactions, truth be told. But that was more a timing thing. We were just fortunate to be able to buy in where we did with no restrictions as resale buyers at all. Another reason is the price we were able to sell at was much higher than what we paid to get in. But neither of those two reasons exist anymore. And who is to say what Disney will do in the next decade to chip away even further (both at their DVC and at their vacation experience in general).

Well, yes and no. We had BWV, SSR, and VGC points--300 total. I sold SSR last year, and just finished selling my BWV points. We are west coasters and while I love going to WDW, my kids are grown. By selling, we were able to get all our money out of the initial investment plus some. Holding on would have been a headache in renting out points to others, plus added risk if the economy crashes again.

But VGC . . . we only have 75 points and will hold them till they expire. We have just enough to wish we had more, but not enough for them to be a burden. Even as adults, my kids still love a short Disneyland trip, so it's still worth it to us. I suppose if we quit going, we'd sell, but I don't see that happening.

I don't see us selling. At this point, we are playing with house money. Bought into The Disney Vacation Club Resort in 1992 at $51/pt. A couple of small add-ons at OKW in mid 90's.Added on at BLT for $99/pt. Total weighted cost is about $63/pt.

Kids are 31 & 24 and still love to go, grandkids are 6 & 1, so I think there are many DVC-years yet to go.

Oh my, I absolutely get tired of humid, muggy weather. It’s only nice in the winter, when its hardest to book.

I doubt we will sell. Our plans are to spend about 4 weeks down there during the cold NH winters when we are fully retired.

I may sell a contract, but will probably pick up others as well (we currently have 2). We will be DVC owners as long as I have breath in my lungs.

My son loves Disney as much as I do (he's only 15). I fully expect that he will want our DVC points. I will let him use them when I am too old and eventually gift them to him I am sure (that's a long way off, so it will likely be new contracts or at the end of life of our current ones which won't be worth much at that point).

We don't have kids, but we always thought we would gift our deeds to someone in the family. Now as our nieces and nephews grow up, we realized how few are Disney fans and now it is a question of whether they could even afford the annual dues. We are not ready to make a decision now, but we probably will sale most of our contracts once we feel it is too difficult to travel to WDW. Hopefully that will be 15 or more years away.
