Strangely, before we dropped off our paperwork at the local H&R Blocklast week, I thought to myself that I should have made copies of our paperwork...but shrugged it off.
Today I called to check if they were done...and the lady couldn't find our stuff!!
Not worrying yet...she was just the receptionist and the manager was out...but has this happened to anyone? I cringe just thinking about calling all those places for W2's...Last year was a busy one for us...2 W2's for me, four for DH...plus we sold a house so we had the closing statements....
DH says don't worry...H&R Block is a big trustworthy company...how can you not worry?

I don't worry about the person that we have do them now. But I would worry if it were H&R Block. We had problems with them 2yrs and that was enough. They did have to take care of one of the problems. But being that H&R offices are only open at certain locations during the tax season, we had to contact and travel to another location to have the problem fixed.

Uh oh....
We have had our taxes done by H&R for about 6 years, and no troubles so far, but this is our first year at this location.

We had a bad experience 2 years ago and will do our own taxes from now on any year that DH isn't self-employed. DH was self-employed that year, so the tax preparer advised us to send in taxes throughout the year ahead of time since none were being withheld. Then when he calculated our taxes for the state of South Carolina, he omitted one $5,000 prepayment, so he had us overpay by $5,000. We should have caught it, but even though we had taken him our paperwork in early February, he finished them at 12:30 on April 15. We barely had time to sign our names and get to the post office. If we ever have to get anyone to do our taxes again, I'll make sure they can guarentee they'll have them done sooner, and then I'll go over the papers with a fine-tooth comb before I sign them.

We did get our $5,000 back, plus a very paltry amount of interest, minus a penalty for doing our taxes wrong. South Carolina caught it and sent us our money. I thought about getting the tax preparer to reimburse us for the penalty, but I didn't want to go through the hassle.

I do our taxes now since 2 years in a row I found our tax guy (a friend of DH's) had made mistakes and then tried to tell me they weren't mistakes even though I had the tax code in my hand  .

YES! Our last year in MI the accountant forgot to add one of the forms and we ended up OWING money! We got the notice last year right after we moved to WI. It was NOT good timing at all. When I went and got out the tax papers from that year theyw ere still in the envelope the accountant had mailed to us. And there on the top was the form he did not add on.

Now we have MIL's accountant do our taxes because the family trusts her. :)
