Do You Ever Worry About Getting Robbed in the Parks?

Or is it just me?

During our last trip to WDW in May, I bought a cute little 2013 Disney side-bag from DisneyStore, and it was adorable, but I quickly learned it didn't hold everything we ended up needing throughout the trip.

I really wanted to bring a backpack, just a regular size one would do, but my paranoia that someone would un-zipper it while I wasn't paying attention and swipe my wallet or other valuables freaked me out so bad that I didn't buy one. Prepping for our next trip in Oct, I'm back to worrying about getting a backpack again.

So I have to ask; do you worry about getting robbed in the parks? Or have you ever been robbed?

Being robbed at WDW isn't high on my list of "bad things that could happen".
If I bring in a bag, I make sure I only carry the necessities (ID, KTTW, Cell). I don't carry a lot of cash, nor do I carry a camera every day. Sometimes, I just use my Vera Bradley small wallet thingie (the kind that has a D-ring on a strap and tuck it in my front pocket and fasten it thru a belt loop. Makes it really difficult to loose or for anyone to pick my pocket.

The only time this even crosses my mind is when we park our stroller when we go onto an attraction. And even then, my fear is that someone grabs ours by mistake rather than flat out stealing it or our stuff.

Never have worried until last trip in May when apparently someone was "robbed" while in line at Pecos Bills. The couple, a few CMs and security were gathered right by our table so we could hear some of the convo ... it was the first time I actually thought about someone coming into the park to rob another.

No, but I also make sure that my wallet is in an inside pocket buried at the bottom of Mack's and sweatshirts

I don't worry any more about getting robbed in Disney than anywhere else, but I also take the same precautions as I would anywhere else. I take very little jewelry with me, and a small wallet with fewer credit cards, limited cash, and my ID. I keep everything critical on my body at all times. I don't put anything important in the diaper bag or stroller. Of course, I could still be robbed, but at least the damage with be minimized. I think the key is to be just as aware of your surroundings as you would be anywhere else.

It honestly never crossed my mind just like it doesn't cross my mind every day of my life. Can it happen? Sure. But I can't imagine someone coming up behind you, knowing where your wallet was in your backpack, unzipping the bag without you even knowing it, taking the wallet out of the pack without you knowing about it, zipping the bag back up without you knowing about it.

About the only thing I do is maybe slip my foot through one of the straps if I'm sitting down for a long period of time.

Not me. I'm probably naive but Disney feels like this magical place where bad things don't happen. I'm sure that's not true but I'm just too busy soaking up the magic to even imagine.

I haven't thought about it before, but I suppose we should be more careful. I am sure it happens more than we realize.

Do I worry about it? Nope. We just take the regular precautions like not keeping stuff out and haven't had a problem.

Closest I come to that is when my kids beg for overpriced souvenirs. In all seriousness, I have never had a concern about getting robbed.

Not anymore that walking around in downtown Chicago.

I would not, however, keep my wallet in a backpack that is, well, on my back.

I worry about it as much at WDW as I do anywhere else, which is to say more than the average person. I still wear a sling pack though. Mine has a cell pocket on the front strap that I kept everything important in (phone, KTTW card, ID) and the only thing valuable in the back was my camera. Maybe it's naive, but I figure I'm pretty sensitive to being touched so I figure I'd feel someone reaching in there.

I wouldn't worry about it. I use a backpack purse at Disney and someone would have to be really slick to unzip it while it was on my back and root down to the bottom for my wallet. Remember - heavier things are going to automatically fall to the bottom - lighter things like our ponchos were what stayed near the top.

in the parks we feel safe but are also careful. carry a cross body bag, so I feel like I would know if anyone reached in since it lays on my front hip. we also don't leave anything valuable in the stroller when parking it. the last trip I was a little nervous at dtd at night. I had heard some reports of incidents, think in the parking lots maybe if I remember right, think I heard it on a podcast. guess its a good idea to be careful anywhere we go, you just never know.

I would be more worried about being robbed in many other places than WDW, but I'm always cautious. It's a good habit to be that way every time you're out in public. Don't leave valuables like camera bags and purses in strollers at stroller parking, don't wear expensive jewelry, carry a ton of cash in a easily accessible place, etc. To me, there is no sense in paranoia of being robbed at WDW. Enjoy your time there! It's magical, and being worried or paranoid will only spoil your fun. Just take precautions :)

My mom was pickpocketed on an escalator at the airport. Purse zipped shut under her arm.

Took less than 15 seconds for the thirds to unzip, locate her wallet, extract it, and move along. She didn't notice until we got to security and she went to grab her ID.

You should be careful at WDW just like any place where people gather. I hear all the time of things being stolen out of strollers and the like but just keep an eye on your bag and you should be fine.

I worry more about losing stuff. Like a few years ago I lost an iPhone in TSMM, either in the ride or in line. It never got turned in to Lost and Found. Now I'm super paranoid about making sure my phone, camera, or whatever is still with me, but more about me losing it than it being stolen.

There is one thing I never worried about before but had to worry out last trip. We had to leave all our luggage in the back of our SUV while we were in DHS. We had just got off a cruise and were trying to get to DHS ASAP for SWW. We were staying offsite at Bonnet Creek and I don't know if we could've dropped our luggage off or not, but really we didn't have time because we wanted to get there before it got too crowded. I was worried our luggage being in the back where it could be seen would make us a target. But it was fine in the end.

I wouldn't say we worry, but we are smart about it. Typically I wear shorts with zippered pockets in the front. I carry anything worth stealing, room keys, credit card, money etc. the rest of the family typically don't carry anything of value on them in the parks. I am a large intimidating looking person. Most thieves will most likely pick an easier target. You would have to be one heck of a pick pocket to unzip my front pocket, steal something without me noticing, and get away without me breaking your arm. But, seriously it's a pick pockets smorgasbord at WDW so they will pick the easy targets. With that many people they don't have to risk trying to steal from people who are prepared for it. We also leave any purchases for the way out of the park so we don't have to carry it around all day.
