You were that social media post that got thousands of likes? On occasion I will post and think I'm so hilarious and the wittiest ever. But I'm never ever the one.
My son’s girlfriend had a tic tok go semi viral is had about 12k hits. It was one showing a ton of little texts from her mom who is Italian and loves to add the eggplant emoji and didn’t know the slang code it stands for in the teen realm. A SNL skit broke the news to her mom a year later what it means

I’ve been slowly getting rid of all my social media accounts over the last few years. The last one I had was Twitter (X) and I got rid of that a few months ago. Everything about people trying to pretend their lives are perfect or sharing all their beliefs, I’m done. I found no value in them.
I don't post for the likes, but it does sometimes surprise me what ends up being popular. I'm not into TikTok or IG, but I have a YouTube account that I use for video storage/cataloguing.
One of my most popular videos is something ridiculous. We were at a school choir concert when the fire alarms went off. We were evacuated, and I decided to take a video from the parking lot...because at the time, it just felt like an interesting moment I wanted to preserve. It's the kind of quirky stuff that might fade in memories if there wasn't a reminder. I never expected any views, yet somehow, it's close to 21k. It's just silly! YouTube separates out full videos from shorts. A ridiculously basic video I took of a standalone ice maker we purchased...making ice...is my most popular short with thousands of views. Most of my popular videos make sense...cruise ship stuff, Disney, a meteor video that got picked up by the news. It's these quirky ones that are the head scratchers.
Validation is nice, though. I like that my reaction count is more than the messages I’ve posted.
Not that that means anything…maybe I view it as quality over quantity. I don’t like to speak unless I think it’s worthwhile. I’m just not a chatty person.
I belong to a couple of forum sites but don't do 'social media'. Way too many phony/self-absorbed people saying/doing things to either be obnoxious or get more 'likes' to enhance their ability to get ad $$$ thrown their way. Personally, I think we would all be way better off if social media just went away.
