Do you ever truly pay rack rate at Disney

Here's hoping for pixie dust to come your way. I know each year Disney becomes more and more expensive, but I know that I will somehow manage to keep making it happen. One area I try to save on is with rooms. For our family staying on property is part of the Disney vacation, so offsite isn't an option. We did it once and it just didn't have the same "Feel". I can remember being able to book ASMu in a value season with AP discount for $49 a night. Talk about a good deal. Miss those days.

I think we paid RR for our first 2 on site trips but that was before I know they even offered discounts.

There is no way I would be able to afford it. Even with the amazing military discount we generally stay offsite in a bigger room (generally a villa) for less money. I'd rather use the extra money to do fun experiences while there than for a room I won't spend much time in. Wanted AKL for our honeymoon but there was just no way! We'd need to have cut our trip length by 70%!

I think a lot of people also could not afford rack rate, or would have to reduce trip length to make up for it.

We don't pay rack rate anywhere. We always look for discounts when we travel.

We paid rack rate for two nights in AS-Movies between Dec. 30, 2000-Jan. 2, 2001. Then we moved to POFQ with a 50% off CM discounted room. Since then we've stayed DVC and on CM rates, but our October 2014 vacation is looking to be rack rate if we don't get an RO discount. Oh well, what can you do? We're going during a popular week but have no other options due to school schedules.

Looks like I'm about to this October - fixed dates, can't change. But I'm reasonably happy with POP at $112/night even though it's "full price"

I think my first trip in 2004 was rack rate before FD trend (or just ignorance on our part?). We have since gone twice 2008 and 2010 booking one on inflexible dates thinking we'd pay rack rate, but got surprised with a FD offer and the next time we were able to land our somewhat limited dates in a FD intentionally.

So far we've only ever traveled in "value" or "value 2" season when I find the rates acceptable and the extra discounts are just a perk.

No, but we've only been three times in recent years and one was off site. However, I will say, after getting FD twice and getting a 15% off for a one night stay at AOA, I'll never pay rack rate. We just won't go if there are absolutely no discounts. One of the reasons we went this year (besides loving Disney) was because with FD it was a very affordable and cost effective vacation compared to our other choices. We even upgraded to deluxe and I still think we got a great deal. I'm thinking this will probably be the last time we'll be able to afford deluxe so I'm living it up:cool1:

I won't pay full price. If there's no discount, we don't go. For me, a room only discount won't get me to go though. We stay at the value resorts usually and their room only discounts are so low (around 15%), that the savings doesn't cover one counter service meal. So, it's free dining or we vacation elsewhere.

What do you mean the way the website is set up? There were no discounts on the website when I booked. :confused3 10/21-10/30 are the dates, am I missing a discount?

If your days are flexible, there's free dining starting the 26th. If you checked out on 10/31, you could at least get it for part of your stay.

The only time I pay rack rate is when there is a FD promotion. We always stay in a moderate for FD and if we are doing a RO we do deluxe.

I'm looking at paying rack rate this Christmas/New Years for the first time in 9 trips but I'm hoping that Orbitz has something. For some of you going in October, they have a 15% off code that looks like it's good through November 15th. Maybe that would be better than nothing!

Do you know what the code is? Thank you!

After dozens of trips, I am doing it for the first time this summer. My DD and I are booked at AoA /LM room over 4th of July. We could have paid $50 less to stay at CBR for the 5 days we are there LOL! But, we have never stayed at AoA, and it is a girl's only trip, so we are going for it. The LM rooms look so cute for us. I am heading back in August with both kids, and took advantage of the 30 % room only discount, along with an Orbitz 20% code, to stay at WL.

With talks of pins, codes, and free dining, does anyone ever pay full price anymore. You see commercials advertising for % off all the time. Just wondering if our good deal is really a good deal. I know some people have gotten discouraged that free dining wasn't for their dates, but with % off they still saved a good bit and could apply that to dining, which would still help out in the long run. Disney sure has us on the hook, but I keep coming back for more! Happy planning.

I am paying rack rate for two rooms at the Contemporary pre cruise from December 27-29. I have DVC and PAP.
Last I called no PAP discounts. Will I be able to get a discount?

Hi.
We are going pre-cruise from December 27-29 at the Contemporary paying rack rate right now and I have DVC and PAP. I know I called Reservations about an AP rate but don't remember about DVC discount so on the phone with them now but also going to check out Orbitz. Have you ever booked with them before? I have not and would just be a little nervous but 15% off each room at Christmas/NY is a good start. I think I will look at the cancellation policy in case something better from Disney came along but who knows with that time of the year. Let's keep each other updated since we are going the same time. Happy planning!

We're staying in a 1 bedroom at BLT December 13-20th with or without a discount. If a discount comes in, it will be gravy, but we won't cancel the trip if it doesn't.

In some ways, I hope that week stays non-discounted (other than the FD that has already been released). We've gone during non-discounted weeks in the past and the crowds seem much, much lighter.

Funny, I have booked through Orbitz. In fact, I had booked our trip for June/July because it was better than the summer discount that Disney was offering but then Disney came out with the AP deal with the free memory maker so I cancelled the Orbitz reservation with absolutely no problems! Got my money back within a couple of days.

We did this time for the end of August. We did get a free Memory Maker though. Yippee...LOL :rotfl2:
