Do you ever send your compliments to the chef?

I know, I know, I'm a loser But I just wondered if anyone else does this while at WDW.

For example, my hubby and I have a tradition of going to the California Grill. After our meal our waiter was asking us how everything was (literally everything: flatbread, main course, dessert. etc.), and I said it was absolutely delicious and "my compliments to the chef."

I don't know if they actually tell the chefs or not, but I personally love to cook, and if I were a chef, I think it would rock if someone did this for me.

Any opinions?

I have asked for the chef's business card, and written a letter to the restaurant manager for the resort (copy to WDW Guest Communications), as I would with any other CM who's work or efforts greatly enhanced my trip.

Yes I have done it and have gotten chatty with some of the chefs, hence my worship of Chef Gray (former chef of Citricos - current chef of Narcooses). They do appreciate it and some will actually chat if they aren't busy.

we always thank the staff if our meal was very good and commend them for it. course we also nicely tell them if it wasn't

First off Lindsay, excellent point. Complimenting the chef is something most people do not think about, simply because they are behind the scenes.

I agree with the OP. I"d just like to add a chef is like an artist(think about the plate presentation & blending of flavors), as a composer/musician I can attest that we creative types enjoy hearing our work is appreciated & enjoyed. Its not for the glory, but rather knowing the appreciation is there for the efforts we put forth. That is why creative people create their works of art (whatever their art may be), to touch and inspire others. Believe me there is nothing more inspiring than a full belly of fine cuisine So certainly compliment the chef when appropriate. We also like to send a letter as well to show our gratitude.

When we were there on FEb 10th, we were told he started at Narcooses the beginning of March. The Narcooses chef, who I met, was already cooking at Citricos. He came over to my table and tried half heartedly to win me over but I wasn't biting. They already removed a few of Grays dishes but I guess the new guy wants to make his mark. They did keep the shrimp & feta appetizer but changed the fois gras ravioli to a forest mushroom ravioli. There was a long song and dance how they had to change it because of availability and animal rights activists. I said, they have it at V&A and I'm from Northern CA and those annoying people can all kiss my fur draped behind. I eat what I want. It was still a free country last time I checked.

My next trip I will be going to Narcooses with a bottle of Rubicon and bells on to say "howdy" to Chef Gray!

DD has food allergies and Disney is one of the few places where we can eat out without worrying about her safety. After each trip, I write a letter complimenting Disney on the way they handle food allergies. In my letter, I always mention the names of the chefs we spoke to and I also mention if a chef goes out of his/her way for us. Now that DD is 6 and can write, she draws a picture and sends a thank you letter along with my letter. We just got a phone call from Disney the other day thanking us for the letters. The man on the phone also said that he would be making copies of DD's letter & picture for each of the chefs named in my letter.

After finishing my fried herb cheese appetizer at 50's Prime Time, I told our waiter to tell the chef that it was the best thing I had eaten all week. I had never done this before but just felt that they should know how good it was to me.
To my pleasant surprise as we were getting up to leave, our waiter brought me another plate of it to go complimentary! I didnt' expect it but I took it and had it cold for breakfast the next day.

About a year ago, my DS11 decided that the hot dog and fries at the Brown Derby was the best he had ever had. He asked our waiter to take his autograph book back and please get the chef's autograph. The waiter told my husband and I that the chef got a real kick out of that.
