Do you ever miss your mother's cooking?

I miss her fried chicken with gravy, her lima bean soup. Fortunately, I can make all of her other recipes. My dad has told me that my stuffed cabbage taste better than hers.

ALWAYS! Every Sunday and every holiday. Although dad did a lot of cooking on Sundays. Mom did it through the week. :(

I'm lucky because my Mom lives next door and invites us up every other week for a dinner of MY choice!!!:) :bounce:

My mother always made a dish for me called marinated carrots. I love this. She passed away about 4 1/2 years ago. My step mother tries to make this for me all the time. Hers is good, but it just isn't my mom's! I also miss my mother trying out a new recipe! She did this constantly!

Yes, most definitely. Both my parents were italian and were both very good cooks. My mom came from a family of 10 girls and one boy (grandparents were from italy) and she was the BEST cook of the bunch inarguably--so you know she was good! I wish I had some of her recipes, but most were never written down. I've duplicated but never came close to how she cooked certain things! Sure do miss that homemade pasta.........:(

Oh yes! I miss her homemade Chicken Noodle Soup, Ham & Cabbage, and Thanksgiving dinner!

My mother lives nearby, so she cooks for me quite often. I’ve written a couple of her ‘recipes’ down, but it’s not easy because she just kind of puts things together…”maybe I’ll add a little”…”it looks like it could use some more”. I think I really should try making them myself to see how they turn out. While I think everything my mother makes is pretty good, I especially love her Slumgullion (that’s what she calls it). It’s really just hamburger, potatoes, peas, and a little onion, but I can’t get enough.

Yes, very much on every holiday. She's still alive, but living in Mexico, LOL, so I don't get to see her much. I can duplicate most of her recipes, but it's just so much nicer having your mom cook for you.

She never enjoyed cooking, so I basically grew up on macaroni and cheese, meatloaf, and Chef Boyaredee!! :D
Grandma (Mom's Mother) on the other hand, was an excellent cook and I DO miss HER cooking!! :D She always made a huge breakfast when we stayed with them, then it seemed like just as soon as the breakfast dishes were done she started in on a big dinner, then when dinner dishes were done, she started on supper. I could never understand how she had time for anything else, she was ALWAYS cooking and baking. :D

Oh boy, do I miss her cooking but, mostly all her variety/ideas for meals!! After almost 5 years stay-at-home, I've run out of anything original OR copied. :( :o And, what I copy of hers is hardly Ever the same. The only (recent) exception to that was, ham casserole. Couldn't believe it tasted like hers, just like I remember. ;)

We have some fave childhood meals ~ Dunky Dunk (pork chops w/soy sauce), chicken & rice (baked w/3 soups) and, bisquick chicken. Some other fave meals, more special foods than cooked meals ~ Skirt steak and, luxembourg sausage.

I'm getting hungry!!

There's hope for my hunger yet ~ Mom's having T-Day and Christmas!! WooHOOOOOOO!! :Pinkbounc

her Slumgullion (that’s what she calls it).
Diane, this cracked me up!! We had something called slumgooey!! Honestly!! It was beef and egg noodles and tomato sauce, green peppers & onions, if she had them. Guess this was 'easy night' for Mom's, huh?! ;) :p :) That's toooo funny!!
