Do you ever miss the moderates/values?

I miss the atmosphere at Coronado Springs. My husband and I just returned from a stay at the GF and while it and the BWV are very nice, I think the CMs are wayyy more accommodating at CSR. We've never stayed at a value, so I can't compare those.
ETA: The food is better at CSR too, IMO.

Me, my DH, and DS6 had a 3-day stay at CSR last May which I added after a week at BWV to take advantage of a resort deal AND get cheaper plane tickets. We enjoyed the atmosphere too and will be definitely be going back (and to POR). We love our DVC :cloud9: , but have room in our hearts for the moderates as well  .

I'm not a moderate/value type girl. Only had been in deluxes(actually for business meetings). So DVC was a no brainer for us.

The only thing I miss are the food courts.

Same here. We loved having all those dining options in one place, but there is no way that I miss those rooms. The walls of those resorts are so thin that you can hear almost every move your neighbor makes. You can't beat the size of DVC rooms either.

are the studio's in DVC bigger then the regular rooms at the value and mod resorts?

we haven't yet had the pleasure of going home yet and i'm just trying to get a general idea of the size of the studio room.

We just purchased DVC in December. DH is already missing POR. It is his favorite resort. I'm hoping that we find a resort that he likes as much as POR. I know that we'll always have find memories of POR :lovestruc no matter what our Disney future holds.

I missed the Caribbean Beach Resort-we honeymooned there and stayed there 6 more times before DVC..well we took advantage of free dining and stayed there for a week this past August.
Never again.
First, I have realized that sharing a room with a 5 and 7 year old bites.
They are night owls, and don't go to bed until the lights are all off and everyone is quiet. I am even more of a night owl and I don't feel like going to bed when my kids go to bed.

I missed staying near Epcot. DH and I whimpered as we walked on the Boardwalk knowing we had to leave and go back to CBR. It's so much better to be able to be right there.
I missed my balcony a lot. I'm always cold and hate air conditioning, so I liek to sit out there and soak up the heat.

That said, having the food court again was great...and we do stay at values for a night prior to checking in if we come in on a Friday, so we still stay other places, but we did not realize how spoiled we have become by DVC until we went back to a moderate(and we LOVED the moderates, have stayed at all of them pre kids and had great trips, we just need the extra room of a 1 bedroom now).

What is the fascination with POR? We were at POR for 9 nights with my DW's family. It was ok, but nothing compared to WL.

We have only been to SSR for DVC and it was good. The studio was a bit cramped. However, we realized that when we booked it. Going forward, we would use 1Bedrooms.

For us, moderate resorts are out. We bought into DVC for 2 reasons; 1st to commit ourselves to regular vacations, 2nd is to accommodate our family of 5. So it’s a money thing now. Call me a scrooge, but if I wanted to keep going to moderate hotels, I would not have bought into DVC.

There are two exceptions to this. For our honeymoon, we staid at the WL honeymoon sweet. We both would love to go back there again (Maybe for our 15th year anniversary). The second exception is the DW wants to stay at GF.

None of the Mods can hold a candle to the Wilderness Lodge, the Beach Club, the Boardwalk, or the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

While POR and POFQ are quaint -- they ain't deluxe resorts!

I can empathize with your husband. We too are Dixie Landings lovers. But we did find another love (in addition to DL), VWL. I know that OKW more closely resembles Dixie Landings, but we just feel like VWL is more homey.

Snip.....

I really am not sure what the fascination with Dixie Landings is. I find the place comforting and very homey. The color of the rooms at the mansion section, the decor of the furniture, not sure which I love more. Also the landscaping is so beautiful. And the food court area. When you walk to it, first you walk down and then you walk up. And the hustle and bustle of it. And the great smells.
I think I need to visit Dixie Landings again!!!

I don't get the facination with POR either. We stayed there a couple nights again 2 years ago, and I thought the rooms were cramped and coming out of the room reminded me of a Holiday Inn.

We've never stayed at POR,( and I wouldn't now, because if I'm not going to have a balcony for a night, it will be at POP) but I think the grounds, pool area, special nooks and crannies are beautful. We sometimes just go there to walk around! That other area, across the boat canal is also beautiful, like southern mansions.

but no one said they were deluxe -

if you're looking to stay the night you arrive or one more night and don't have enough points they are a great option.

you're on property but not spending a fortune just to sleep.

for us we usually stay at daytona but this time we've decided to just drive in from savannah and spend the night at por or coronado and since we aren't going in never go in high season we never seem to spend ages in line like i've heard others say they do so it's not a waste of a day.

besides if we stayed in daytona it would take us 2 hours to drive in so we're really saving time.

no, POR, Caribbean, Coronado aren't deluxe but they have there own appeal which them great for a night or two.

and while i won't miss staying at the value we wouldn't rule it out when our daughter is older and might like to stay at POP or Movies again. but then again she wont remember we stayed there before and prob won't miss it.

I don't miss staying at them at all. We love the DVC accomodations, and the resorts themselves. There certainly is nothing wrong with the moderates, I like the theming and layouts of a lot too. But having stayed as a DVC member, and getting a one bedroom - I guess I am spoiled.

For DH & I, it is the landscaping and that the parking lots are on the outside of the resort. We love the walk across Ol' Man Island to the food court. We like having the food court. We love the relaxing atmosphere.
