Lately when I eat acidy food....tomatoes, oranges, etc I get a little bump on the roof of my mouth.

Anyone else get this? Its not a canker sore, just a little bump. Typically goes away fairly quickly. Anyone? :confused3

Sometimes, but I don't really remember or notice what causes it. I wonder if it's a mild allergic reaction.

Yep, I do. I don't eat many tomatoes as a result. Can't do walnuts or cranberries either.

I get bumps. At first, I used to get them in my mouth, but later I started getting dry patches and rashes on my arms.

You're probably allergic to citric acid. I love so many things with it in there--strawberries, tomatos, oranges, lemons, limes...and shampoo is the biggest offender. Just using a shampoo with citric acid is the worst for me.

BTW, there's no treatment...avoidance is the only way to deal with the allergy.

We were always told that we were lying and thus got a lie bump :rotfl:

i get those little bumps all the time...except for i don't eat anything wrong!!! :sad2:

Yep! I get an allergic reaction to RAW citric foods. Even watermelons & other melons, which I love.:( I can have cooked tomatoes fine.

I didn't know about citric acids in shampoos. I've been getting nearly free shampoos on sale & have been watering them down & putting in a pump dispenser & using as hand soaps. I love the smell of the citric shampoos, but I have been noticing a little rash now & then on the top of my hands. I wasn't sure if the shampoos were just drying out my hands more than usual, combined with winter indoor heat. But the allergic reaction makes since since I am so allergic to so many fruits.:scratchin

I've had that. Didn't know it was an acidic allergy :confused3

Are you getting one bump in the same place or many bumps all over the mouth? If it is one bump in the same place, you probably have a block salivary gland (yes, they are all over your mouth--even the roof of the mouth). If it is many bumps, then it is an allergic reaction.

It is one bump in the same exact place everytime on the soft part of the palate. I dont think it is an allergy. There are things I am allergic to, but this is not allergy like...and I dont break out anywhere else.

I don't break out when I eat citric fruits, which is why I didn't associate the shampoo to the rash I've been getting. The back of my throat swells up slightly, the roof of my mouth itches, or deep inside my ears itch (where I can't reach.)If my lips are chapped, the acid will make them swell & burn slightly.:(

I'm sorry you have that happen! Citric acid is in everything. I dont have any swelling or itching myself. It's also inconsistent. For instance, I just had something acidic and no bump....sometimes its spicy food too, or garlic or oniony food. Who knows!

Okay, then, I'm going to go out on a limb and diagnose you with a "salivary gland dysfunction." I've had this happen occasionally and usually it will resolve itself. I have had this happen in several places in my mouth (under my tongue or back behind a wisdom tooth). A friend of mine had one that would not go away and he had to have some minor surgery on it. Acidic food stimulates your salivary glands to produce more saliva at a faster rate than normal foods. This is why it is noticeable with these foods.

Thanks. It's actually not as bad as it sounds. LOL It's more of an irritation level. But that could be because when I do indulge, I limit how much I eat. My reaction is not as bad or dangerous like I've heard nut allergies can be, where the throat really closes up, to dangerous, not able to breathe levels.

For me, if I simply HAVE to have a bit of watermelon, I'll have 3-4 bites & leave it at that - and I put on chapstick first. Then I know I'll be paying for it in about 5 minutes as I get that itch deep in the ears, that I can't scratch! Ugh!
