Do you ever feel some people argue...

I want to buy an argument."
"No you don't!"
"Yes, I do!"
"No you don't!"
"But I already paid you for it!"
"You did NOT!"
"Yes I did!"
"No, you didn't!"
"So why are you arguing then?"
"Ahh.... I could be arguing in my spare time..."

"This isn't an argument, it's merely a series of contradictions!"
"No it isn't." :rotfl:

I argue just to argue. It's fun. It's why I became a lawyer.

I just told my DH a couple of weeks ago that, I wasn't sure he realized it, but that he argues with everything I say and he has for the last 19 years! He got a blank look on his face like he had no idea what I was talking about! So now, I am calling him on it when he starts up and he shuts right up!! :cloud9:

Oh I've called him on it and told him how much I hate it. I think it's so ingrained in him he just can't seem to break the habit!

Ah-ha! Maybe it's true that my DS will become a lawyer instead of a vet, then! :confused3

::yes:: I think it is a family trait for DH.....and they all get worse as they get older! UGH!

just for the sake of arguing? It's not that they really have a particular stance on something but if the conversation is going one way, it seems like they always have to throw in the opposite opinion. It's almost as though they just want to take the opposite point of view just to create controversy where there was none.

I know a few people like that and while I try to respect their opinion you just know when they show up things will get ugly.
OOPs, didn't mean to be a thread killer......

I agree. No I don't. Yes I do. No I don't.

I know people like that. I know people who will argue about things they know nothing about, and show their ignorance more so in the process. I just let them talk. I figure if oyu give osmeone enough rope, they'll hang themselves.

We were driving over to get gas in DH's car this evening and I was telling him about this thread. He said (and I quote) "You knew what the rose smelled like before you tried it". I looked over at him and he just kept looking straight ahead, driving. I burst out laughing and I asked him, "did you mean I knew you were like this when I married you?" and he said, "you know that's what I meant!" REALLY!?? :lmao:

I think he is a little offended that I post that he is argumentative! :rotfl2:

Oh this is SO my Dh :lmao: He calls it playing "devil's advocate". He doesn't necessarily have to agree with the opposite stance but he'll always argue it anyway. I adore the man but if you guys ever have to bail me out of jail for killing my husband, you know why :rotfl2:

My dh too!!!!!!!!

Mine was snooping last night. I've been found out. He's insulted but baby if the shoe fits...... :lmao:

I think there's a fine line between arguing and discussing. I like to talk about things. I'll bring up the other side of an issue, just to talk about it, but to me, that's not arguing. :confused3

I think it's really boring (on a message board or in real life) when everyone just nods their head in agreement.

And that's fine if, as I've mentioned, it's out in the open. If it's stated that you're playing devil's advocate I don't have a problem. But some people will argue with themselves if given a chance. My 6yo is like this--one night at dinner he said something and I agreed with him and he then started arguing with me. :rotfl: My 15yo will argue points just to argue even though it's obvious what he's doing so it doesn't normally bother me. He gets that twinkle in his eye that tells me that he's in a debating mood.

:rotfl2: That is my dh exactly! He likes to get people going and then sit back to enjoy the show.

Edited to add: Back when my son (now 16) was in 1st grade his teacher called him "the Barrister", lol. Maybe it's gentic. :teeth:

:thumbsup2 Sort of like sheep IMO.

Sometimes on here I think people post questions that aren't really questions and they really don't want everyone's opinions. They simply want everyone to agree with them and if someone doesn't agree with them they take offense.

My brother is like that--he likes to argue to argue. He calls it "debating" and he is an attorney. I can remember once in college (which he denies) that he wanted to debate with me whether I would want to be shot or hanged.

That's not an argument, it's a contradiction.
