Do you ever feel like you get rude/sarcastic comments?

It's tough to interpret "tone" on an internet board. Anyone wanting to be snarky or sarcastic there is actually a site where all that is welcome and sometimes pretty funny. You have to admit some of the posts here can leave you scratching your head in amazement.

Since you asked what people think, I will tell you. I am not being snarky in my response but I don't get posts like this any more than a rude, nasty post. Instructing people on how you think they should post according to your personal guidelines isn't productive.

I was a little snarky on at least one occasion, and I felt bad about it almost immediately. It was someone asking a question that a simple internet search would have answered in less than one minute. I think anyone who has enough internet savvy to join and post on a site like this can probably use google (or weather.com or disney.go.com) or maybe even do a thread search. However, I should not have responded, but just rolled my eyes and laughed to myself.

You mean like this??? How to Google

:rolleyes1

Yes, I think some people can be very rude and sarcastic on these boards. I usually try to ignore it and it doesn't stop me from posting/reading other's posts.

I don't mind sarcasm as long as there is no harm intended. But this generally is one of the nicest posting experiences I've ever had. I love reading about how excited everyone is about their WDW trips and advice that is given.

You want super snarky and mean spirited? Go to a board for dance parents! I've never seen such rudeness and ill will.

I am pretty new to the boards but my own personal experience has been good so far. The members that have responded to my questions have been extremely helpful. I have learned so much here and I really appreciate all of the help. That said, I have read comments that may be considered rude or snarky, but you will find that anywhere on the Internet, or in real life for that matter. I try not to post questions that are easily answered or that already have a million recent threads on the topic. If I ask a question it is because I couldn't find the exact answer elsewhere or I am looking for opinions from people with experience. I find it pretty friendly around here and I am enjoying talking to others as I plan my family's first trip to Disney! :)

Yep, I totally think tone is hard to read. I tend to be sarcastic in real life and have to remember to tone that down online since I know sometimes, ok most of the time, a joke isn't taken that way.

All in all though I haven't been here long I have been really pleased with how friendly and welcoming everyone is here considering the same questions have probably been asked a zillion times. I am so grateful for all the helpful people because while I have searched sometimes I can't find the answers and I just really welcome the patience that questions are answered with.

So thanks Disboardians, you are awesome.

I'm not new to the boards by any means. I've been stalking for years. I think I even started a pre-trip report (but never finished it because I'm lazy like that. :o) and I've had nothing but kind words and met friendly people. However, I have seen some posts that I personally would consider rude or snarky but I just ignore those and focus on the fabulous people on here who are so willing to help and encourage! :flower3:

I agree with PP who said that I only give personal experience from my trips and advice that I think will help. I read the posts where people rant (mostly to kill time) sometimes they have a point but don't express it very well. The only thing I notice is "disers" who have posted many hundreds of times criticizing people who lurk but seldom post. I've been going to WDW since I was a teen (10 trips), been here on the boards for about 6 years and I really don't post a lot. That doesn't really mean I don't know anything or have a right to my opinion.

OP, if there are particular posters with a style that bothers you, the ignore function works great.

Things can only get so rude on the open forum. The moderators do a good job of keeping things fairly civil. I have found where people get really nasty is via PM. I have had to block posters that, for some reason, act sweet and nice on the boards where everyone can see, and then spew their venom in PMs. One poster was absolutely incensed that I stated connecting rooms were not guaranteed. Even though I have not received them when requested 3 times now, they were sure I was lying. They insisted I was ruining vacations (because promising people they would get connecting rooms was apparently ok by them) and called me all sorts of names. It was pretty surreal.
