Ok, so to all my fellow Disboard members. Do you ever feel that sometimes other people that are not members of this discussion board just do not get your love for Disney and all things Disney? Let alone your need to go so often, and or take trips to WDW or DL so often? or why you spend X amount of dollars on a Annual Pass?

I get that a lot with people from my family(well some of them), and my other friends who are not dis members.... and I know they try and understand the love but deep down inside I can see they just don't get it...am i right? i mean no matter how you explain your love for Disney they just look at you with that glazed over look in their eyes, right?

I heard and read comments from others who get that reaction quite frequently, but I guess I've been very lucky in that most of the reactions we get are more of amusement than ridicule. Most folks at work know of my obsession/hobby and guess who they call when they want to plan a trip?

I say who cares if they don't get it. Just enjoy your passion for Disney. They think your crazy for your love of Disney and you probably think they are crazy for their lack thereof.

Thanks to the disboards we have a place to come and talk all things DISNEY! We are here to share our love for the mouse and his house! :lmao:

My husband doesn't get it, which is why I leave him at home and go with my cousin, whose husband doesn't get it either!!!

I can totally relate with you there. However, since joining the local Disneyana Fan Club Chapter my wife and I have made some close Disney friends.

Well I dont have a husband, but I have a set of parents and best friend who just don't get it..

just last night, my dad and my mom go to me “hey sara, you should try and get a hobby”..and I was shocked, I fell out of my chair! I could not belive my ears, I said I have a hobby I collect the pins from disneyland(yes I am pin nerd), someday one of them is bound to become worth a lot and it's something I enjoy doing.. and of course they looked at me with that glazed over look in there eyes and told me .. wait for it.....they said pin collecting is not a hobby.

With shock and dismay written all over my face I quickly decided that conversation was over. Disneymama is right, we all come together on this site to do more then just talk disney, we discuss situations we have experienced over time at the parks, and we all learn from each others experience, plus those experiences can turn into someone else's tips for there next trip..and if it wasn't for people like Kcmike or im mikey or montainfan or goofyonthehighseas who take wonderfull photos of there times at disneyland then we would not see their experience of the park through their camera lense...to me it's not seeing the park in a photo, it's seeing the park in a different angle or persepective...

and this is also what my friend does not get, she gets annoyed when I am snapping 1 thousand photos of in disneyland. And I don't always do it for me, it's for the members of disboards. And it bothers me that even my friend cant just excpet my hobby an love and deal with it..i am sure each and everyone of us has made a friend or two from disboards, someone that we can hang out with at the parks and get our love. i know i have!

i look at us (disboard members) as one big family or support group.. we lean on each other for advise, tips and other things, we also lean on each other when we have rough times in our lives(for that that are close)..

put it this way, would you all rather go to the park with someone who gets it? or someone who does nothing but complain about everything and the crowd levels etc..?

us that get it know what to expect.,. we just know

Oh yes. I just bought my first annual pass last month and I LOVE it! Just knowing I can go to DLR whenever the opportunity comes and it's already paid for makes me happy! Luckily lots of my friends also love DLR so it's not hard for me to find different people to make trips with me. And my family and coworkers understand my love for all things Disney so that helps! (wow, it sounds like I am describing some sort of drug addiction or something hahaha)
But if I was surrounded with people who didn't get it, I would feel very angry in a way. Like, it's no one's business what you spend you money on and what you do with your free time. When I move to LA later this year I am going to DLR as often as possible, alone if I have to!
Some people like hanging out at the bars on weekends, but I would prefer to be in Disneyland :)

Ok jillian, with what you said...

now just imagine going to DL with somoene who wasn't as into it as you are(not like your friends are I mean really not into it) and complains all the time about every little thing...but yet goes to DL with you cause they “say” they like Disneyland.. now think about how you would feel then?..and ur right, i'd rather be at disneyland ALSO then anywhere in the world? why? i don't know apart of me feels "at home" in the parks.. i am sure i am not the only one that feels that way. .. and it's not like we all don't have other interests..i can't even take my friend to see WOC, she hasn't seen it, but to her its just a water show..and there is no excitement for her in it

I have plenty of people who don't understand how I can love Disneyland so much and my other addiction Blue Man Group. Its something that makes me happy and brings me up when I'm feeling down. I go see a Blue Man show or spend a couple days at DL in lieu of drinking or doing drugs. When I explained it to my dad that way he understood and then when I took them to see Blue Man last year they really understood. My mom already loves all things Disney so it wasn't real hard to convince her. haha

One of the reasons why I love the land, is because it is much closer in distance to me, in comparison to my other passion being England... The UK.. I have been dying to visit for ages... I cannot wait until I finally am in the right position to do so! At some point, I will visit DL Paris from London.
I am extremely interested in obtaining dual citizenship. And working 6 months or longer in the US then working in the UK. I just have not figured out exactly how to implement that burning desire yet.

Anyway... I have encountered people too, that will frown upon Disneyland. I defend the land, but to no avail. For people that are staunch dislikers or are anti-Disney otherwise, well much luck to you in attempting to change their key hole type mentality. Like others have quipped, it makes more room for the rest of us! I completely support that sentiment. People that are very narrow minded, quite frankly are scarier then meat suits and cannibals.

Bon appetit mes amis!

Yeah, being in the parks with someone who isn't into it would really be a buzz kill.
I have been fortunate enough to have never experienced that before.
I know what you mean about it feeling at home when you are there. I love it. Right when I get there I get this familiar feeling. :goodvibes

Sometimes I don't understand how some people view DL as just another theme park, and lump it in with 6 flags and Great America....I mean seriously?? I feel like DLR is WAY WAY WAAAYYYY better, not only rides and attractions, but the atmosphere...it's so clean. Everyone is super friendly. The quality of everything is top notch, there really is just no comparison.
It really gets me mad when people who have never gone to DLR say bad things! They are probably just jealous :rolleyes1 :rotfl2:

YES...I hear this...however, I am lucky, my family-mom, bro, sis, SD, ALL get it, however, my DH, does not...how did I marry a non-Disney person :confused3!?!!?

BUUTTT my BFF totally gets it, she and I go to Disney almost every year together and she is just like me, in fact we usually wear matching outfits all Disney while there, it is SOo perfect for us :)!!!

Next trip, I'm taking the baby with her grandparents, it is never too early to fall in love with the most magical place in the world !

Sara just tell them that a trip to Disneyland is cheaper than therapy!
So true

We have lots of friends who don't understand. For example we have some friends that just got back from taking their 5 year old for one day. Not even a full day but 5 hours. They told us they seen all there was to see :scared1: I was just left speechless. They went on to say they didn't understand the 4/5 day trip we have coming up and asked us what we would do to keep from getting bored.

Man, if only I could visit DL more often. We are looking at possible visiting again in 2012 either June or possibly around Halloween time.

Likely my family loves it that I am all Disney. They may not be as "crazy" as I am but they love that I find all sort of neat things about Disney.

It is hard to explain to people who don't love Disney like we do, how we love Disney so much.:smickey::hmghost::tink::sulley::ccat::donald:::MinnieMopluto::mickeyjum
