Do you ever feel drawn toward a certain place, that you have no ties to?

I know that is a weird question. What I mean is, maybe you're an American from California, with no family ties, or any ties at all to, say, Japan...but you always feel drawn to everything and anything Japanese. That kind of thing.

For me, I am from S. Florida, and my family is all from the Northeast, New Jersey and Massachusetts...now SFL is technically in the southeast, but culturewise, is more like the NE...however, I've always felt like a misplaced southerner...ever since I was a kid, I've been interested in the Civil War, all things southern, and just felt like it was home. I have no explanation for this. Anytime I've travelled through the area, I've felt like I was home.

Anyone else experience something similar?

I'm in Tennessee and I live about a minute and a half walk from the site of The Battle Of Rebel Hill. You'd probably like it around here. But to answer your question, yes.

I've lived my whole life in tennessee, and I've never been outside of the country. But I have this weird obsession with Irish things. I've got a clauddagh necklace on right now. I became attached to the symbol before I even knew it was irish. I know a great deal of irish history. My family is not irish, and I don't think any of htem have ever lived in ireland.

I always kind of feel at home in England. I suppose I have some familial heritage there from several generations back, but nothing too obvious. I also have a strong attraction to central Florida, but that has something to do with a big castle, some pirates and ghosts, and some REALLY big mice. :mickeyjum

I was born and raised in NJ. I have never even been out of the country (except Canada) but my home is Ireland. I have no idea why but I just feel that it is. My dh is Irish and his family has traced their history way back to some Irish Earl in the 1600's which I think is great. It gives me a bit more validation when people ask why my children have Irish names and why I have a Celtic knot tattoo. I have never been to Ireland but I will go one day.

According to Nanny, we are Irish and German both.

OP, I have always been drawn to the Carolina coast. I feel like I am at home when I am on the beach on the outerbanks. It is like I was supposed to be born there.

I have always wanted to go to Scotland. I have no idea why, but it just seems to call me. Within the next year or so, I'm going. Maybe Nessie is calling me!

I have always had a strong affinity for the South. I often believe that I was a Southern Belle in a former life and I was reincarnated into a body stuck in the North as punishment for my rebel lovin' ways :lmao:

I have recently really gotten into Tuscany. While many places interest me, I feel particularly drawn to this area and I'm not sure why.

:goodvibes With me it is Italy. Just know that in sometime or other I
was from there. I read a lot about Italy and just know that I belong there.
Never been there and probably will never get there. Oh Well such is life.

Yes I feel strangely drawn to Russia and Russian history. Going to St. Petersburg this Summer. :stitch:

I always figure if you 'resonate' to a certain place or culture...you've had a past life there (a GOOD past life ::yes:: )

I remember the first time I was in the China section of World Showcase and saw the film there....I left the building sobbing :confused3

I'm from NJ but moved to TN when I was 10. I had not qualms about moving because I felt a trong connection to the South. Also feel a strong connection to the beach/ocean (grew up at the beach). But weirder still, is the attracion/bond I feel towards Africa. I really want to travel there someday and do something there to make a difference somehow. I feel quite passionate about it and hope that someday I can fulfil that dream.

her last name is irish. and that side of the family is.

India. I am so drawn to India. The only problem is every time I plan a trip I get pregnant! One of these days I will go.

Not so much a place as a time period and certain people.

Namely.. Anne Boleyn, Elizabeth I and Mary, Queen of Scots.

However, I have a love/hate relationship with being Welsh. It is a huge part of me but I find myself rejecting so much Welsh culture it's unbelievable
- no interest in the language (yet I find myself speaking half-Welsh with my BF)
- no interest in Welsh history (unless it's to make a point about something ancient/medieval)
I'm strangely rooted here. It's this massive chunk of me that I can't resolve. It's giving me a headache as I type!

I feel that I should be English... which is probably why it's causing me a headache! I feel far more connected to general British and English history than anything, but my current Welsh heritage is causing friction (Welsh/English do not have the bext of relationships!).

I know how you feel....every time I see an old house in a movie with a squeaky screen door and big front porch in the south, I want to go there.

Locations in movies like Steel Magnolias, Fried Green Tomatoes, Bridges of Madison County, Silkwood, etc...really suck me in, I want to go and explore every inch of where they were filmed.

That is exactly what I was going to say. What else could it be? :)

Have you seen the movie Under The Tuscan Sun? It is a great movie with Diane Lane and had great scenery. My mom watches it over and over, probably seen it 25 times now. I've seen it about 4. Go rent it. :)

Oh no. That is not right. You must go.

I have always been draw to the coast. Not the beaches, I don't like the beach. I like the rough, rugged, rocky coast.

I remember being in Pismo Beach on a cliff overlooking the ocean. It was night time and slightly drizzling. The waves were crashing high up on the rocks and the wind was blowing. It was cold out, but I wasn't cold. The rest of the family was in the hotel and I just stood there listening to the waves. I had never, and have never since then, felt so alive. It was a really nice feeling and I always long to be back there.

I was always drawn to Venice. We went 11 years ago. It was a cold day in June and I felt like I was in Sheboygan Wisconsin next to Lake Michigan. The water was dirty and grey and it was 50-60 degrees and got really cold by nite time.

I have a draw to Chicago-I love that house in Home Alone. I always said that will be my house one day.

Even though I am of Scandinavian descent, I have always been an Anglophile and drawn to anything British. Love the culture. I can sit enthralled at a Merchant Ivory movie when everyone else has fallen asleep. I totally get the slang and could watch the BBC all the time if I could. I love British humor and everytime I see the English countryside in film or a photo I get this yearning to be there. I'm afraid to vist because I think I might just decide to stay there! Maybe I was a Brit in a past life!
