Do you ever eat dinner in Cabanas?

Does anyone know if the Cabanas menu will be on the Navigatot App? Cabanas would be a good choice if we couldn't make our early seating on a port excursion day and we knew the menu ahead of time had what we wanted on it and we wouldn't need to rush.

We did twice on our last cruise, one night we didn't feel like the MDR, we so enjoyed it ... table for 2 overlooking the ocean and a great server. The second night it was a buffet ... it was St Petersburg in Russia and all aboard wasn't till 11pm and lots of people had excursions which came back or left at times which would clash with dinner. We enjoyed the buffet too!

We did this year, on the WBPC. I had an allergic reaction one morning and slept the day away on benedryl and we missed early dining. Regrettably, most of what was on the menu was what we had both had for dinner the night before.

The biggest advantages to me are that the meal is faster and at least when we dined there, much more quiet. We've only experienced dinner on the Fantasy. I think we had dinner there three nights on one 7 night cruise when the dining room din was overwhelming to me.

Yes! We did on our last cruise and loved it! In and out SUPER fast, sat by the window, and only a couple of other people in there. Perfect for us! I can't stand sitting for hours to eat!

My wife and I did this one night on our last cruise.

The positive
We were seated by ourselves with very few other people in the restaurant.
We had no problem hearing each other ( my wife is very quiet and I wear hearing aids).
The server worked at our pace, he had very few other tables and no tablemates to consider.
Same or similar food to the MDRs
We could come in at anytime they are open and be seated, no strict seatings.
The negative (and not very negative).
This is where they train new servers, so they are not as professional as the MDR. Is is like the difference between Palo servers and MDR servers.

It ended up being the same menu, just more limited.
We had the same experience as other cruisers in that the menu was a limited selection of the MDR,
The menu served in Cabanas for dinner is a selection of items available on the MDR menu(s) that evening. Usually there's also a salad bar and carving station. So, food-wise, there's not much to be gained by eating dinner in Cabanas, except the service may be a bit quicker and more individualized, as you're usually seated with only your party.

Also, the servers there are in training, so are not part of the tip pool.

We have - I liked it. It was more low key and the guy sitting next to us was one of the guest entertainers. We had a good laugh trying to strategize ordering a steak so it would come out medium-rare (they tend to over do them!).

The two times I have eaten in Cabanas, have been the best meals I've eaten on DCL.

My steak was cooked to perfection(Medium Rare) and most importantly, it was hot. In my opinion, that is something rare in the MDR, since the meals spend time covered and waiting for service. This was on the Wonder.

My second meal in Cabanas was also on the Wonder and was a perfectly cooked order of scallops. I asked to speak to the chef responsible that evening since they were so good.

The wait staff on both occasions have been adequate and I'm fine with that, since they are learning the art.

Yes. Every morning we ate breakfast there. My husband still craves the corned beef hash that the Dream had on our last cruise!

Very intrigued by this thread as I never realized one could eat dinner in Cabanas and this will be our 3rd cruise! So you guys are saying that it is with a menu and waitstaff, correct? Is there any place to get a buffet for dinner on the ships? (We'll be on 7-night Fantasy Eastern in September.)

No, unlike most other major cruise lines, DCL does not offer a buffet for dinner. Except on certain cruises with late port times.

You can get food at the poolside quickserve locations, if you wish, however.

No buffet for dinner.

Cabanas is NOT open the first or last evening.

Will you be able to see the menu on the App like the other MDRs?

I honestly didn't look. But they didn't have a problem when I thanked them and left after looking at the menu and deciding that I might as well just go to the MDR because the menu was pretty much my least favorite things from the three.
