I have been doing Diet Center for 2 weeks now (another subject but WOW what an AWESOME program) anyway the leader suggested I try their Chocolate, Blueberry, Strawberry, and Key Lime Cheesecakes to help with my sweet tooth.

Anyway one of the main ingredients in it is Tofu and some people have said that its really good. So tell me about Tofu. Do you eat it? What do you use it in? Its supposed to be extremely high in protein and good for you.

Yes.

Ususally in stir fry. Tofu has little to no taste of it's own, it is a great source of protien, but can be high in fat. It can be used in lots of stuff, it is a soy product so if it is in ice cream or cheese cake, you don't get the dairy problems. It generally picks up flavor from what ever it is added to.

Good luck with your program, I hope it gets you the results you want.

I've had chocolate tofu cheesecake before and it was actually really really good. it also had some almond-tasting sauce on top. it was delish!

tricia.

I've never tried it, but I probably should. I absolutely LOVE vanilla soy milk. If soy can make milk that tastes so great, they have to be able to do something good with tofu.:D

It can be in many forms. You may have had tofu and not realized it.

Think of hot and sour chinese soup. Good chinese restaurants put chunks of tofu in it. Its the smallish, cube like things in it (or rectangular shaped).

I've done tofu in stir fry, in spag sauce (don't knock it till you tried it), and in a cheesecake as well. Also in soups and other things. I've also made it in veggie dips.

Tofu is like a sponge, its not like something you can cut up and eat off the brick. But it will soak up the flavors of what it is cooked in.

Yes, we have it once in a while. I like to slice it up and fry it in a pan with butter, soysauce, and chopped garlic. Sesame seeds are a good addition also. We serve it for breakfast.

We eat some tofu. We actually try to not eat too many soy products because I'm not convinced that eating them in large amounts is good for you. But in moderation, it is a healthy, high protein food. You won't be able to taste it because it is flavorless, and it works great in creamy deserts. Just get the reduced fat kind.

I love tofu. Like another poster stated, it can take on just about any taste. Its wonderful in stir fry. My kids eat it alot and they do not even know it.

Yes! I'm a vegetarian and I do eat tofu. Like the other posters, usually in a stir fry at home. I add Thai peanut sauce, broccoli, carrots and serve it with rice noodles. I also order it when we go to an asian restaurant. DS 6 even likes it! I've had it in other things too, my step dad usesit in lasagna in place of ricotta cheese.

My friend and track coach is a vegetarian and he got me to try some tofu something or other and it was reallllly good(now he brings me some at every meet :teeth: ). Then my aunt who uses a lot of tofu gave my mom some recipes using it and so now we have it a lot(especialy in stir frys like some other of you have said).

Tofu can be awesome, or it can make you gag....it really depends on how it is prepared.

It's like a portobello mushroom....it takes on the taste of whatever it is marinated in. I have never personally prepared tofu, but have had it many times in vegan restaurants, etc. (I'm not a vegan, but the food is good!)

This thread is reminding me of Moby's restaurant in NYC called Teany....with some of the most truly awesome vegan food ever. It doesn't even taste like vegan. Gosh, I miss NYC sometimes!

No way! I just can't get over the texture. Just thinking about it makes me want to gag. I know it's good for me, but I can't do it.

I really like tofu, but for some reason it's awful whenever I try to cook it myself. I'm really a pretty good cook, but tofu is just one of those things I can't master. That's okay, it gives me another reason to eat out occasionally.;)

yep - i love tofu!!!!

my favorite way of eating it is in a stir fry with hot sauce. yum!!! :hyper:

You probably wouldn't want to eat just plain tofu, especially since you aren't used to it. I drink the vanilla soy milk. I've been drinking it for years. You may want to try some of the pre-made soy shakes in the dairy case.

I used to buy a frozen ice cream like concotion called toffutti. it's really good, you may be able to get it in health food stores.

Enjoy:sunny:
