Do You Drive To Disney?

We drove in January, and I never thought we were going to get out of the state of South Carolina! It just seemed to keep going and going and going and going...we started our journey at 4:30am, and arrived in Flordia the following day at 1:30pm. We stayed in GA, and thought we made it pretty far the first day! I am absolutely petrified of flying, and while the drive makes me crazy, I somewhat enjoy it!

100%Disney, we also drive from NC, we're in Burlington and it's about 10 hours for us. On the way down, we usually stop around Brunswick, Ga & spend the night. On the way back we drive straight thru. We don't mind it, we bought the AudioVox DVD & VCR for our kids, bring lots of movies & I also tape directly from PBS, Nick, Disney & Cartoons Network - commercials & all, the kids think they're watching real TV.

We always drive. DH and I love to road trip. The kids are good passengers, too. It's only about 11 hours from here so we can easily do the whole drive in one day if we get on the road early enough. Getting there is half the fun!

It takes us 10-11 hours. We leave around 2 am and pull up at WDW by 1 pm. I got SWA rate of $95 for our trip in May.

Yes, it takes us around 10 hours. That's with taking a lunch/dinner fast food break, and a couple of bathroom breaks. We always have to stop at the visitor's center as we enter Florida to get maps and stuff too (and the free oj and free grapefruit juice:p ).

We usually drive (which takes us anywhere from 19-22 hours) but next time we're flying because we got a great deal on SWA.

Yes, yes I do. Sometimes it can take me up to an agonizing 15 minutes to get there...but then I remember just to stay off of I-4 and I can make it in 10 minutes. :duck:

Bad Stephanie, not allowed to post on these threads. :p

We did a mixture when I was a kid - it's about 20 hours from Jersey, or a two hour flight. In Virginia, I drove the 11 hours. From Mississippi, we drove 12 hours. Once we move to Washington State, however, it's definitely going to be a flight.

We drive from Noo Yawk! We have done the math and it saves our famil of 5 over $700 to drive then fly. we usually leave right after school and drive to somewhere in VA the first day. We get an early start the second day and get to Orlando in the late afternoon. Works well for us.

We're around 30 hours away, and I think I would too tired to drive home after a few days at WDW.

The cost of flying six of to MCO has caused us to at least consider driving, but we haven't tried it yet!

We sometimes drive, it is 19 hours or so--- a MAJOR road trip!

We are! Leaving as soon as I can get off work this Friday. We expect it will take us about 18 hours and intend to split it. We will stay overnight along the way. Have ressies somewhere (DH made them).
:earsgirl: :earsboy:

We have done both, fly & drive. By driving we do get to go more often than we would if we only flew.
Our drive is 24 hours straight through, and the kids actually prefer that to a 3 hour flight.

We drive it's about 19- 20 hours from Chicago . We have driven for many years.. since they charging us to fly the kids..

But with the DVD/ game boys, singing and sight seeing , we make it fun.. we traditionally leave about 5 am. and get to Gary, IN for the first gas stop, switch drivers, Indy for the 2nd gas stop, switch drivers.. then breakfast in Scott IN at the Ponderossa. We switch driver every 2 hours..Next stop is after Nashville for a steak and shake lunch, Gas at the first stop into GA etc....

we target to get to macon, GA for the evening and then drive straight into WDW the next day , arriving about 2:00 pm....

We have only flown. Heck! My Dh gets restless after 3 hours on a plane! Of course that could be because we're at 33 thousand feet and he's scared of flying!!!:earseek: :teeth:

i've driven twice...i don't mind the drive as long as i have a nice comfy vehicle!

We have always driven to WDW.. 10 hours w/kids. We have never even considered flying since that is short compared to when we lived in MI, what is that trip, like 3 days? :rotfl: We always head west to I95, then south to I4. This trip, had to pick up DH in Atlanta, and took I 75 to the turpike. That was the most painful trip ever! (I always drive the whole way.) Physically, mentally, and spiritually! Couldn't believe my mouseears:earsgirl: when DH declared as we pulled into the parking spot, "I can't do this again. ( I thought, oh,oh, he means he won't ever come back to WDW!) Next time we are going to fly!" I was sooooo happy! So now we are only going to go once a year(that's ok, the kids were becoming numb to the anticipation of going again and again) and stay a little longer, but fly! I can't wait to see what it's like to arrive at the world NOT totally exhasuted.::yes::

You know....I was going to plan a road trip for our next visit. Then, I thought about how my dh thinks you should never be in the car for more than 4 hrs. total driving time. Add that to the fact that his driving makes me crazy. A 1 1/2 hr trip to Cape Cod is enough to put me over the edge, so I drive now. No, looks like we will always be on that plane. But, there are only 3 of us, so that makes a difference budget wise.

We have only ever drove down. We live in pennsylvania, it takes about 19 hours to get there. When my sister and I were little we used to stop and make the trip over 2 days, but since I was about 14 we'd just drive straight through. I've been there many times and I've never flown to florida! I'm hoping though, that my next trip we fly. It just seems much more expensive, which is why we usually don't fly.

tricia.

We've flown to WDW only the once....when our youngest DS was in the College internship program.

All the other trips, we've driven.

Depending on the weather in the frozen North...

18 -20 hours by car...

20 -22 hours in the Mororhome...

Now that youngest DS is a CM and living in Orlando, we stop at his place first. 1095 miles from our doorstep to his....

He lives about 15 minutes away from the I-4 exit for the Magic Kingdom!
