Do you do travel insurance?

We are going a second time to Disney with my Alzheimer's mom (88 years old) in the last two years and I know I need to do the travel insurance. I just don't like doing it. I wouldn't do it without my mom on the trip.

Do you feel the same way? or do you just consider it a normal cost of going on a trip. I feel we are all more at risk on this board; so, I'm just curious if you take your chances or not.

I usually go with a deal like free dining; so, I feel it's a gip if I have to cancel the trip. I won't know if I can get a comparable deal later; so, I just don't like paying extra for the travel insurance, but I don't see passing it up, either.

Do you feel my pain?

I've actually never used travel insurance. Most travel insurances have clauses saying they won't cover pre-existing conditions (or only will for a high premium) and I'm far more likely to have to cancel a trip due to pre-existing problems, not some new thing. My family has always traveled a lot and as far as I know my parents never got it either. That said, most of my travel since my health problems started has been staying with friends so much lower stress on my body than something like Disney.

Getting trip insurance for pre-existing conditions (that I'll call PEC) has its tricks. Usually you have to get the insurance within a week or two of booking the trip or the PEC is not covered. We did two DCL cruises and with the first one I was about ready to cancel because I was afraid my younger son's PEC wouldn't be covered - and I wasn't going to get on a cruise ship without insurance. I found this company through the Cruise Critic board cause the owner posts there and they were VERY helpful. They are similar to other insurance brokers in that you can buy insurance from many different companies from them. The difference is you can talk to a knowledgeable person who will explain the differences in coverage and recommend a few plans for you. It costs no more to buy the insurance from them than from other insurance brokers or directly from the company. I just liked them cause they seem to know what they are doing.

I realize they have a quote from me on this page - LOL! Believe me - I don't work for them or get special discounts or whatever. Here is their page on PEC and insurance: http://www.tripinsurancestore.com/3/pre-existing.shtml

I don't usually buy trip insurance for my WDW trips - definitely for a cruise. I think that all depends on the possible medical issues and how risky it is and how much money you have put into it that is not refundable, etc.

We have not bought trip insurance for WDW either because the person we would probably have to cancel for would be DD and she has lots of PECs (good abbreviation).

When I went to Belgium and when DH went to Thailand, we did have trip insurance.
