Do you do this at the Drive up ATM?

Even though I am not in a hurry, it still is annoying when someone does their business at ATM, then they sit there and arrange their purse, put their stuff away, get rebuckled into their seatbelt...........then minutes later finally pull away.
I don't know why it bothers me so but it does. I pull forward out of the way, and re-buckle, ( I can't reach if I stay buckled.......LOL)........ put the card away etc..........

It is just lack of courtesy? or do you sit too when you are done.

This is one of my many pet peeves. I do what I need to do an move on. :confused3 It really burns me up when people do that at the grocery store at check out. I don't get it.

It bothers me, too. Unfortunately, when I pull out of the ATM I use, it empties into a lane where traffic enters a shopping mall. There really isn't a place to pull over. I just kind of jam everything into my purse and leave quickly but since I know the situation, I sigh a lot and try to be patient when others take forever to leave because I know they can't just pull to the side safely.

I think what bothers me the most is a similar situation at work. We have a gated parking lot. When you leave the house, you know you're going to work--this is not a spur of the moment decision to be here. How hard is it to have your card out and ready when you get to the gate? I've had people in front of me stop, put their car in park, dig through their purse for their card, use the card to open the gate, put their card away, adjust their rearview mirrow, check their lipstick, and then slowly take the car out of park and drive through. It makes me wish the gate was on a timer. :lmao: That'd make them get out of the way quicker!

Sorry, I was just venting about this this morning!

If there is anyone behind me I pull forward (if possible) before putting the receipt, card, and money away. I try to fill out an envelope as quickly as possible and try to have a couple at home so I can pre-fill them.

it's called being oblivious to the fact that anyone else is around you or even exists, it annoys me to no end.

If I am in my car I fasten my seatbelt and move up if I need to do anything else. If I am in line I always move up so the other person can start checking out or whatever

What really bugs me is during lunch in our cafe when it is during the busiest time and people just walk around like they are taking a Sunday stroll trying to decide what they want, meanwhile they have managed to cause a traffic jam for the other 200 people that are trying to get to the food station they want.

in that case it probably ( maybe ) wouldn't bother me as much.......LOL
but at the one I use it empties into the bank parking lot, which then you turn onto a side street with almost zero traffic, then you turn onto the busy road......so there are plenty of places to stop.

I do the same as you if I use one that has exit onto a busy street, I just throw the stuff into my purse quickly and keep moving.

I'm short so I have to unbuckle too! I always look in the rearview mirror when I'm done. If someone is behind me waiting I'll move out of the drive thru before I stop & put things away. But if no one is there, I'll put my card & money away first. Moving out of the way seems like the considerate thing to do.

I have another ATM scenario for you: one of the branches I go to has the ATM in the small enterance area. There is a sign on the door asking that you wait outside for the person to finish before you go in. Most people do this when the branch is closed. But if the branch is open, some people come in & wait in the enterance area while you are using the ATM. I'm not talking about those that are just going thru on their way into the bank. I'm annoyed at the ones that come into the area & stand right there waiting for you to finish so they can use the ATM. I mean, I* still want my privacy using the ATM, even if the branch is open! :headache:

If there is an area to pull forward, yes it would annoy me. If there isn't an area to pull forward (the lane empties into a street?) I'd be a little more understanding. But really, your purse/money doesn't need to be in order to DRIVE. It can sit in the seat next to you until you get where you're going.

I do the envelope at home too, if at all possible. I swear it seems that every time I go to the drive-up ATM, I manage to get behind the one person who has never used an ATM before in their lives and will spend 10 minutes just punching the buttons and grimacing at the machine -- same thing happens at self-checkout lines too. :lmao:

I have an even better one! The last time we were at a drive thru ATM the car in front of us waited for a woman that ran from across the street to get into his car and then did her banking! She got out of the car & went back across the street. At this point there were two cars behind me. The guy then lets two other girls he obviously knew use the ATM as a walk-up while we were all waiting! After they finished, he chatted with them from the car. Finally he got around to doing his own banking and must have done 3 or 4 things because he kept inserting his card and pressing buttons, then getting receipts. I was truly amazed at the nerve!

I have no patience. Do not fill out ANYTHING at the drive-through ATM and do not sit there when you are done doing whatever you do. Drive-up, do your thing, take your card and receipts/cash and pull out.

The one we use is in a huge parking lot with plenty of spaces both in front of and at the exit of the drive-though lanes. There is no excuse.

I don't normally use the ATM, but when I check-out at the grocery store, I like to put my change, credit card, whatever, back in place, but I always push my cart to the side, out of the way so I'm not holding someone else up.

But not everyone does this. Some people will stand right there in line, and put all their stuff away, completely oblivious that anyone else is standing and waiting behind them. Some people are just in their own little world.

That is odd. The only thing I have really seen is when it is someone's turn a passenger gets out of the car to do the transaction instead. I have no problem with that because someone may not want to hand a driver their PIN number.

This bugs me too!!!

I have always looked at it as a safety issue - even if I am alone in line, I do the transaction and get out of there. No sense just sitting there, when someone might have been watching you and then uses that as a way to mug you, carjack, etc since they just saw you get cash.

Yes, but our ATM line merges with several other lines at our bank, it is not safe to pull over or stop and buckle my seatbelt, or drive while putting things in my purse. I say people now a days are to much in a hurry, and only think about themselves for being so impatient. Geez does an extra 2 minutes or less really going to make you late? If so, leave earlier! Society today wants everything NOW and can't wait just for one single minute.

I hate this too.

I'm someone who doesn't like to call a lot of attention to myself. I'm mortified if I hold up a line for any reason (price check, for example).

I was at Starbucks a few weeks ago and there was a line of about 6-7 people. At the front was a lady ordering a few drinks, and JUST as she got her total and was about to pay, she decided that her daughter (about 6) could pick out a snack. So, no lie, she and the daughter went through the choices one by one, looking at the case, for about 4 minutes until the girl picked something.

The rest of us were just standing there like :confused3

I never use an ATM, but I do go through the drive-up banking window to cash checks or make deposits into our checking or savings account and I always pull ahead if someone is behind me, before putting anything away. The only thing I will do before I pull away is count the money if I've cashed a check, or look at the receipt to make sure the correct amount was deposited and check that the account number is right.

I do the same at the grocery store too, walk ahead a few feet with my cart full of bagged groceries and then put my receipt into one of the bags and my change/checkbook back into my purse.

I don't like being held up by others, so I don't hold others up as well.

This drives me crazy, as does the person in the supermarket cash register line who stands there waiting for their entire large order to be rung up, and only after the total is reached do they start to open their purse and look for their credit card, or worse TAKE OUT THEIR CHECKBOOK!

Please folks, many of the credit card machines now will read your card while the order is being rung up (at Target you can even put in your signature in advance). And if you MUST pay by check, get your checkbook out and fill in everything other than the amount while your order is being rung up!

Oh, and by the way, at those drive-through car washes at the gas station, you can usually put in your number while the car in front of you is being washed!

I don't take my seat belt off when I use the ATM. Didn't know people did that. :confused3

When I'm done though, I count my money, put my card back in my wallet, throw my receipt in my purse and then I'm good to go. It doesn't take that much time and honestly, I don't care about the car behind me. My concern is making sure my stuff is in order.

This drives me nuts too. Recently at Target, the woman in front of me not only waited until the ordered was totaled before pulling out her checkbook but then asked for a pen! I always want to tell these people, "There's this great new invention - it's called a debit card. You swipe it, put in your PIN, and it accomplishes the same thing as writing a check, but a lot faster, and you don't need to pull out your license." The other thing I hate at drive-up ATMS is when someone doesn't pick a lane, but instead hangs back and waits to see which one becomes available first.

With regards to the original post, what I do is I'll check to see if anybody's waiting behind me and if there's nobody there I'll take the time to put the card and money in my wallet, but if there is somebody there I'll just toss them in my purse and worry about fixing it later. However, I always have to both take off my seatbelt and open the door in order to reach, so I will definitely put my seatbelt back on before I pull away (and, obviously, close the door. ;))
