This is dd's last year in elementary and younger dd's first day of elementary.

I think I will put a card in with their lunch and likely I will try to decorate a cake with a back to school theme.

We take first day of school photos but that is about it. Well, there is the happy dance I do in the driveway as the bus pulls away:). (Love them more than anything but haven't had a single break from them since June 25.)

Before they leave we always take a picture in the same spot.

I also make chocolate chip cookies so they can have cookies and milk when they get home. Normally, they have something a little healthier. This year I had no oven so I had to go use my neighbor's.

We are having breakfast with my Best friend's family. Ds starts 11th grade, and her son is 9th, first year in HS and her daughter is 7th. Her DH is a teacher.
I am fixing sausage biscuits, potato crowns, juice and maybe muffins. Quick easy way to get a good start.

We will have dessert for dinner tomorrow night as a first day treat. Not an evertyday thing for us.

We take a first day of school picture. I will put a note in my dd's lunchbox. And I will make her favorite spaghetti for supper that night.

I always take first day pictures. I always cook a big meal and let them tell us all about their day. I take off of work and enjoy he quiet>:)

tonight is the last night before school starts:
we have a "back to school bash" where one kid picks the menu (tonight it's pizza) and one kid pics the activity: we're playing the magic kingdom game and watching Lady and the Tramp (I love my kids:lovestruc)

I made their outfits for first day of school and we take pics
note and star shaped sandwiches (cuz they're a shining star)
cookies and milk after school, and I always make a hot breakfast for first day;
usually pancakes and bacon. Fincally, they'll both have a surprise in their schoolbag (this year it's a surprise Disney pencil and eraser; Tink for DD and Cars for DS)

ETA: DH and I both walk the kids to school together, and then I invite a bunch of the moms over for coffee after drop off.

My kids' first day is always a half day. We take pictures in the morning, and go to Chuck E Cheese for lunch after they get home.

Our school year tradition
Take a pic infront of our house with their backpacks
Follow the school bus to school to get them to their classrooms and set up - take pic in classroom as well
Bake a cake the first and last day of school and sing "Happy 2nd grade to you, or Happy summer vacation to you"
I put a note in their lunchbox everyday (except the buys of course) and when DD couldn't read I just drew funny faces or hearts....

We also do the pictures before school. We went to DQ after school and then before bed I get video of them talking about their first day -- who they ate lunch with, what the teacher is like, etc etc.

do anything special the 1st day of school?
The Happy Dance:banana::banana::banana: all the way to the bus stop and again when the bus pulls away.
Then I go clean the house and then just sit there while it stays clean for at least 6 hours a day.:dance3:

I always take pictures in the same spot in front of the school on the first day. This year will be the only year that all 3 of my kids will be in the same school, so I am trying to think of something fun to do. Putting a little surprise in their lunch with their note would also be fun. I also take them to DQ for a special treat on their first day of school, report card/conference days and the last day of school.

Up baking biscuits. Getting ready to fry sausage ( I never do that) and I bought the "good" OJ. Another year is here!

pictures, notes in the lunchbox and I sit and talk to her about the first day while she has a snack

Pictures at the front door and this year at the bus stop. Cupcakes when they get home. Third year doing this (DS6 in 1st now, and DS4 special ed preschool) and going good so far. First day was yesterday.

I don't have kids (quite yet, give me a week or so :goodvibes ) but I have a friend who always reads the story "The Kissing Hand" to her girls the night before school starts then makes cookies with a hand shaped cookie cutter and puts a hershey kiss in the middle and puts them in the kids' lunches for the next few days.

Oh is that the sweetest thing! I've been giving DS kissing hands (a real kiss with lipstick on) for the past few years for daycare, but a kissing hand cookie in his lunchbox as he starts kindergarten would be a great hit! So, now I have a week to find a hand shaped cookie cutter and find our copy of the book.

besides getting to the bus stop on time..... take a few quick pictures "Mom why do you do this every year?" and then enjoy the silent clean house before the book bags explode!

For those of you who follow the bus and go to the classrooms- do all the parents in class do that? we aren't allowed to - well at least it is extremely extremely discouraged anyway- we do have a meet the theacher night 2 nights before and the kids take their supplies in then, find their rooms and their bus slots.

We planted trees when each DD was born, now they take pictures infront of it on the first day of school.
I've told them they have to take the trees with them when they move!:rotfl:
