Do you clean your hotel room?

Does anyone spray with Lysol or do anything else in their hotel room when visiting Disney? Also, on the airplane? We fly on Southwest so I know someone just got out of my seat and it isn't even cold yet, nevermind them doing a good cleaning on it. I got a good tip here before about putting a baggie on the clicker. Does anyone else have any good tips?

No. I do keep our clutter to a minimum so housekeeping can do their jobs, though. What's the difference between jumping into a dozen rides each day at Disney and sitting in an airline seat? They are all covered with germs. I'd recommend trying to relax and enjoy your vacation and take the usual precautions (wash hands before eating, restroom stops, etc.).

and sitting on a used plane seat doesn't really bother me because it's not as if germs are entering my body in anyway. What we usually do is use Purell (or generic version) on our hands religiously after getting off the plane/before eating snacks inflight; after rides/attractions at WDW; before eating anywhere. I also use antibacterial wipes in hotel rooms on the remote, light switches, doorknobs and toilet handle. I never knew about the unwashed bedspread issue before these boards (!) :scared: , so I may request a clean bedspread at check-in.

I don't wipe, spray or otherwise disenfect my room. I sleep with the comforter. I tidy but don't otherwise clean.

I have never come home sick from any of my many WDW vacations.

Um... I do hope I don't wind up sitting on a plane next to somebody who sprays a bunch of aerosol stuff all over their seat.

By a clicker, do you mean the TV remote? Wow. I can't say I've ever worried about touching a TV remote. Wouldn't it be easier to just get some lysol wipes rather than hermetically sealing it?

I prefer to try and not think about all the germs there are, otherwise I go nuts in my mind! I do sometimes take a wipe and wipe all lightswitches and doorknobs, remote and PHONE! Phone is a big one for me, but this probably only happens half the time.

We have thought of spraying lysol before but never have. I don't really think it would help much. My thoughts of course.

I prefer disney because I think they are much cleaner then a normal hotel (most of the time) but still have plenty of downfalls. So I just try to not think about it and relax!

Ok, I'll admit it--I'm compulsive about cleaning. Anti-bacterial wipes for the plane--tray, armrests, etc. My husband pretends not to know me. Anti-bacterial wipes in the room, especially the bathroom. Lysol everything. Bed spread goes right in the closet. I even buy bleach and pour it in the shower. I know I am crazy, but hotels skeeve me out generally.

I do take Airborne before I fly. Too many germs flying around in an enclosed plane!

Just asked a question! Always one in the bunch. No I won't spray anything on you. Just asked a question.

Oh yes I'm marrried to a germ phob and when I read this thread to him he said eww baggie on the remote i never I thought of that I like it :thumbsup2 He brings disenfectant and sprays everthing, door handles, toilets, faucets, phone, shower, remote.. all the comforters get turned down we are not allowed to sit on them. ALWAYS have to wear socks in the room and then throw them in the hamper...I could go on and on. It used to really drive me crazy but after 20 years with this guy it's kinda rubbing off on me. I always leave my socks on too in a hotel room and wont sit on the bed spread now either. I know its up tight but I can't help it now, although Disney hotels where so nice I didn't get the sceevies in them like some other places we've stayed in.

This is an interesting question. :scratchin How does a person concerned about germs in a hotel room deal with all the potential for germs in an amusement park? Just think of all the germ-laden people who sat in a seat, touched a ketchup dispenser, or hugged a character before you did.

Hmmm...I guess I'm just not a big germaphobe. Now, I wouldn't lick the hotel remote or anything, but I'm on vacation--I do enough cleaning at home.

Thank you for your honest answers. I don't go crazy cleaning, but this time I think I will use Lysol, as last vacation all three of my kids ended up getting sick. Don't know if it was from the room but trying to take any precautions I can. I agree with the bedspread thing too. I saw on 20/20 before what is actually on those bedspreads. We pull them down and don't use them either.

I consider myself to be a "neat freak" clean type person. I have started taking Airborne when I feel like I'm coming down with a cold, but I forgot to take it last week on a trip to Florida. I still didn't get sick?
Like somebody stated before, if you really start thinking about germs, you can go crazy.
One of the most Nasty Germ Infested things in this world would have to be MONEY. It has touched so many hands. Where people put their hands before they grab the money, etc.etc.
Another is resturants. Mainly fast food and chain. If you go into the kitchen it will make you lose your appetite. Nasty.
The comforter in a hotel is something I've started to try and avoid.
There is over kill on the germ fobia.

The HORRORS!!!!! NOT the COMFORTER!!!! :rotfl:

I'm the same way. I don't clean anything- I tidy a little when I leave for the day or when we leave period. I don't want the maids to think I'm a slob or anything!

I clean my house when it needs it (the kitchen A LOT- more out of need for cleanliness and not disinfectedness) and I wash my hands whenever I get the chance but I've never been a germaphobe or crazy about germs. (Although I am deathly afraid of raw chicken).

I also hardly ever get sick. I liken it to all those years of sitting in filthy airplane seats and touching doorknobs. :scratchin

Thank God you have such high standards!!!!!!

I'm firmly in the "doesn't even cross my mind" camp on this one. I'd never wipe anything down in a hotel room, and I walk barefoot and use the comforter!! Once I accepted the idea of millions of dust mites invisibly chomping away on my dead skin cells, I relaxed about it all and I don't give it a thought. If I saw something visibly dirty, I'd either swab it with a washcloth or call Housekeeping.

Amen :thumbsup2

Unless something is really standing out as being dirty, it doesn't cross my mind. I remind my kids to wash their hands a lot and I think the worst germ pool in WDW is the Busses. Since we hoof it enough during the day, walking to and from our resort is not an option, the busses are a risk I am willing to take.

I use Purell all the time, especially traveling. I don't sanitize my room, but all hotels kinda skeeve me out, too....I just don't think about it.

My sister has a fear of the comforters, too, so the first thing she does when she arrives at a hotel is pulls the comforter AND blanket off the bed, then the next day before she leaves the room, she stuffs them in the shower and turns the water on. She says now she knows she has to get a clean set when they make up her room. :sad2: :rotfl:

When I stayed at an upscale, historic hotel in Portland, ME once, I climbed into bed and pulled the blanket and comforter up and saw .... dried blood swiped on the blanket ... I literally went and threw up in the bathroom and slept in the chair that night. I complained to the hotel the next day, who did nothing for me. :crazy2:

I check in, open my suitcase on the stand in the closet...or thereabouts and go about my merry business. I keep my personal stuff straightened, but I don't clean a thing, or make the bed. I'm on vacation and I tip housekeeping to do that for me.
Once, DH and I travel with DBIL and his DW - we stayed in a 2 bedroom condo just outside of the WDW gates. She drove me nuts worrying about things being "unclean" and went about disinfecting everything in site. I've never known her to do that in her own house!! I'll never travel with them again.

You know what is covered by billions more germs than an airline seat, TV remote or hotel room will ever be? Your keyboard. :thumbsup2

Did you know there are more germs on a household computer desk than on the underside of a toilet seat?

Happy typing!
