I think I understand the whole use year thing now but do you choose or do they give you one??

It depends on what you are buying and whom you are buying from. If resale, you can look for contracts that match the resort and UY and points and then put in an offer. If Disney, they have a lot of UY flexibility with sold out resorts, except for maybe WL and BCV where they are more limited, so ask your guide and they'll try and match it all up. The currently selling resorts AKV have a couple, I believe April and June right now. SSR is kind of like a sold out resort as they seem to have a lot more UY flexibility.

We could have gotten any UY month when we bought in Jan. We picked Oct. because we tend to go in Nov/Jan. but this year we are going in Aug with our developer points. Makes me nervous to go that late in the UY for us though.....but hopefully all will be fine. I would hate to lose those points if something happened we could not go in Sept.
