Do you checkout when you leave? Increasing room turn efficiency

When we leave in the AM I make a point of calling or stopping by the front desk to let them know that the room is available to be cleaned.

I think as members if we all made a point to do this, it could help get housekeeping to the rooms that were ready to be cleaned. More efficient room cleaning should lead to rooms being available earlier overall for members.

We can't force those or even influence those inconsiderate few that will stay past 11, but we can do our part to help each other with a siple phone call.

Yes. Usually on person stores any luggage we may have with bell services while the other checks out

No need, I do express check-out and I always let the housekeeping staff know that we were done with the villa

We do. I usually let the front desk know while DH deals with having our carry on bags held by bell services.

I use express checkout so I don't anymore unless I'm looking for a print out of charges to the room that didn't show up at my door in the morning (since it's online now I don't even need to do that unless I'm without the computer). Each time I did stop by and said "I'm checking out..." I was cut off and told I didn't need to before I could finish my sentence with "and would like a printout".

We typically leave the room about 10:30 to 11 taking a slow morning and triple-checking the room for items left behind. Not much time savings there for housekeeping and turn over.

We use Express Checkout, so we don't stop at the desk. We do call Housekeeping on our way out of the room for the final time to let them know we are gone. It only takes a minute or two, and I figure they'll at least know we are out of the way. If we see our housekeeper in the hall, we also tell her in person. We don't seek her out, but if we pass her, we let her know.

I sometimes do but I often forget and I wonder sometimes if a frazzled CM at the front desk says "ok thanks" only just to turn and get back to what they were doing anyway. Wish they had a special door card (a discreet one like just all one color or something) that you could put out to signal you are gone. That would be helpful. Is it better to call housekeeping or the front desk I wonder? I think some system would be great to help alert the staff to know rooms are ready to be cleaned and if I knew it was really helping I would make an effort to remember all the time.

We will let the housekeeper know as we are leaving. It is usually pretty close to 11 am so they often can be seen 'hovering' in the vicinity. If we have to check out earlier, I will call housekeeping directly.

In OKW they are sometimes knocking on the door starting around 9:30 or 10 to see if you are gone. We have started hanging the do not disturb sign out so they know we are still in the room or in the process of taking stuff to the car.

We call Housekeeping to let them know as we are walking out. The "front desk" number is really the call center and they may not care.

Sadly the Front Desk and the Housekeeping phone number doesn't let the Housekeeper on the floor know that you are gone.

Best bet is to make sure that the DND sign is put away, start the dishwasher and tell the Housekeeper in the hall if you can find her.

Yep. We've mainly stayed at OKW so far, and that's our experience, too. They KNOW when we leave, because they are right there.

As far as I can remember, we've never left earlier than 10 (and I'd probably say that we usually leave just before checkout, apart from our very first villa stay) anyway, so there's no time advantage for housekeeping anyway.

No, but on our last trip to BLT I assume the housekeeper knew. She started banging on our door at around 8:30 asking when we'd be out. We were out by 9:45, but I was thinking gosh, we have until 11 and I would have been a bit ticked if we were trying to sleep really late before our 24 hour drive home!

It's a good idea though.

We always call housekeeping the last thing before we leave the room. If I'm at OKW, we do it when we take the last suitcase out. When we are at the others, we do it as soon as they pick up our bags. I think it's the considerate thing to do. In fact, if everyone did that, there would be no reason for housekeepers to ever knock on your door on check out day. Besides, we always are ready to go early (usually by 8-9) because we like to play in the parks a little bit before we leave.

We always call housekeeping directly if we leave before 11. No need to contact the front desk as the room will not be open to them for the next check-in until mousekeeping states that the room has been cleaned.

If Disney wanted to improve the efficiency they could add "Checked Out" on the reverse side of the DND sign and they could instruct and teach guests to call when checking out and they could have Bell Services call Housekeeping when they come and get your luggage when you check out.

Apparently it isn't something that they feel needs improving.
