Do you check your voicemail?

I've ranted about voicemail before, but I had to call someone at a major Public Relations firm today who represents a nationally known figure who is going to be in town. The number was a cell phone and the voicemail box was full. I looked up the company and found a landline number, which someone did answer. I commented that the person's voicemail box was full and the guy who answered said they don't use voicemail on their cell phones or landlines. He wouldn't give me this person's e-mail, and suggested I just keep calling until this person was in. REALLY?!
After an hour and a half I finally caught this person in the officer and got the information I needed. I don't know what to make of this.
I agree with the PP above. If you had his cell phone number, why didn't you just send a quick text telling him what you needed and to give you a call?

Not every one texts.
I am old, work in a large corporation and don't know a single person who does not text. I am involved in many groups including competitive sports and in every one it is required that everyone texts as that is the only way information is sent.

It is rare that someone does not text these days. I don't think you can even find very many cell plans anymore that do not include unlimited texting. I would have taken the chance and sent a text to his phone. 99.999% of the time, it is a far more efficient way to contact someone than waiting for hours and continuously calling with the hope of someone answering. Texts can be glanced at anywhere.

If you are saying the OP doesn't text, he probably ought to learn. It is today's method of communication. It would save him a ton of stress.

Full disclosure. I work at a TV station and OUR investigative reporter refuses to setup or use voicemail! LOL.
How does he reply to people? I only have a landline, and yes I check my voice mail.I have to pay for , so I will check it.

I have an office messaging system for the church I work for.

People sign up to receive email or text messages from us regarding church events/activities.

I can text individual members through that system from anywhere without using my personal text/email.. It's great.

Most of my Dr. Appointment reminders and confirmations come by text.

I had an older parishioner call yesterday afternoon and,say 'I haven't gotten the Easter schedule text. When are services?' That prompted me to go ahead and send a mass text.

Sometimes it's mind blowing the number of forms of communication I am using at one time.

I listen to voicemails, reluctantly. There are so many better ways to communicate and more often than not, they are not anything critical.

At work, my voicemails go to an audio file that gets attached to an email, so playing it back that way is much less annoying than the old system of having to enter a code, etc.

I agree...if someone needs immediate response, please email or text.

I check my voicemail but I don't know why I bother.

It's usually a message saying that I'm being sued and if I don't respond to the voicemail within 24 hours, I will be arrested.
The "cops" are frequently going to arrest me for several outstanding "warranties". As I quake in my boots I wonder if it's the TV, iPhone, washing machine or a combination of all of the above.

The newest generation of people with cellphones are not big on using voicemail. They just expect you to check your recent call list or send a text if it's important. Strange that they depend so much on the written language but often can't spell.

I manage a medical practice and this is our HUGE pet peeve! We ask for best contact number and that goes in our system. These are the patients that don't text or email. Then when we call with lab results, schedule changes, snow emergencies the voicemail is full. Then they show up in the office on that snow closure day and scream that we didn't contact them. Public service announcement...leave your doctor a phone number that actually works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The other pet peeve is people who call back based on caller ID, without checking if a message was left. Our phones get transferred to the open office, so that call could have come from any of the 4 offices. Listen to the darn message! :)

At work, yes.

My cell, it depends. My voicemail has a transcription feature so I'll scan that first before pressing play. If it's worth my time I'll listen, if not then delete. But It might also be a few days to a week before I do actually listen to it. I'd prefer a text or email.

Texting isn't appropriate for medical information and leaving generic text messages results in no one calling back.

Not every one texts.

If you’re working for a news agency and calling the contacts of high profile national figures it’s probably time to avail yourself of the modern communication methods...or I guess ou can keep repeatedly calling a number for 90 minutes as OP says he did.

I check the voice mails on my cell phone and at work but not the house phone. They are usually robo-calls.

I check voicemail but it's the "visual voicemail" iPhone feature that does a rough transcription of the call, so it's more like reading a text. I rarely actually listen to the voicemail.

Yes at work and on my cell. I don't on our house number because anyone I want/need to speak with calls my cell.

As I posted not an option. But they didn't use their voicemails on their LANDLINES either.
