Do you check in for your flight online even if you already have assigned seats?

We're flying on Midwest from Milwaukee, leaving on Thurs., Oct. 26. Do we need to check in online, we already have our seats assigned. Should we still check in online? Would it be better to do this? If we check in online does that mean we don't have to be to the airport as early? We are checking luggage too. What would you suggest?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, first time flying in 20 years!
Thanks! :)
Oh yea, and what about the return trip?

I usually do it. I had an experience one time where our seats were reassigned at the last minute, we only found out when we got to the airport. It would be hard to change it if you already have your boarding passes.

only airline would be southwest cause they do not have assigned seats so you want that coveted A bp.

Other than that you do not have to. If your airline has a check-in kiosk there is no reason to except if you want to.

I have flown delta and had assigned seats but still checked in on-line but we had no luggage to check - only carry-ons.

To OP - Call Midwest and see if you can check luggage with skycap or any other method other than waiting in line. If I were you I would check in on-line as it cant hurt in any way and can only help.

What about bumping rules? Do people who check in earlier have priority over the last minute check ins when it comes to involuntary bumps. I know involuntary bumps are very rare, but this thought went through my head yesterday on my flight home.....

I am going to start a new thread to see what folks say....

I do because I've shown up at the airport too many times and the seats I had reserved had been changed.

I'm afraid that checking in online is not going to prevent you from having your seat reassigned before the flight, although I don't know if it makes this less likely.

Yes, unless you are bumped for a passenger more desirable to the airline (ie elite frequent flyer member).
