Do You Care How Long You Wait at Check In?

Do you care if you have to wait a long time to check in?

  • Yes! I hate waiting in line and it's a waste of time.

  • No, I'm just glad to be "home"

  • Who Cares? You have too much time on your hands..lol

I don't mind the wait for check-in, but I sure wish EVERYONE was prepared for it! When I stand in line, I have my member card handy as well as my credit card and ID. I hand them to the agent, reiterate my request for non-smoking medical reasons and usually have a pleasant and very quick check-in experience once I get to the desk.

I don't mine waiting. I'm HOME. with DME now you should expect to wait at check-in if using DME. And if you don't use DME you can still expect to wait. If 10 families :jumping1: get off at BW what do you think will happen, of course it will back up. :rotfl2:
Front desk can only do so much and move so fast. Don't forget about the guest ( the better then the next guest who wants all their requests met) and holds up the line. Everybody blames the CM when it's really the guest slowing things down. :grouphug:

We have only had one wait in I don't know how many stays. It was at BCV and it was really nice to stand in line and chat with other members. You know who they are because they have the DVC confirmation paper in their hand! DH took DS outside and let him walk around, they wandered down the hallway and looked at the sandcastles by Cape May. I really don't mind waiting since we always check-in early and don't know if we'll get our villa or not.

We have learned to make our stays as stress-free as possible. Book direct flights (when they are available, which isn't often), rent from Emerald Aisle (one rents the car while the other gathers luggage), check-in early (arrive the night before and stay somewhere else if necessary).

We have a very young toddler and after a long flight (the flight is really the hardest on us), we are SO ready to get to our room. DS usually needs a nap and we just really want to get to our room and help him adjust. One time during check-in at BWV last fall, our DS had a diaper explosion. It was 4pm, actually a little bit after, our room was not ready, and we a spare diaper, but no spare clothes (they were with the bellhop). We had to ask to go to the bellhop's room and get extra clothes out so we could change our guy). It was really not a pleasant way to start our trip. We ended up having to wait yet another hour on top of that, not getting to our room until at least 5pm. We were really disappointed with that situation and hope to not experience it again. We are really wary of having to wait too long. NOW, when it was just DH and I, we could think of alot of things to do and waiting was no problem. It's all in perspective....

does not bother me, as we avoid the long lines. If we get there and there is a long line we simply bypass check in for a few minutes and head to the nearest snack area and have a quick snack and then go back to check in. That is another thing I love about SSR, Artist's Palette is so close. :thumbsup2

I voted Yes - but not because it waists time, because I have bad knees and a bad back and I really hurt if I have to stand too long. I wouldn't mind at all if I could sit while I wait. At the parks I rend a scooter due to the pain, but I just can't justify a private rental scooter for as mobile as I am.

Hey :)

Just saw that you are in Susanville. Another Northern Californian :)
My son is at Lake Almanor this week boating. What a small world :)

Bobbi...I wanted to be sure that you saw Karnak's response, which is what came to mind for me. OKW and VWL both have a nice children's area with animated movies running on the televisions. ...
:thumbsup2

Hi, Where is this children's waiting area at VWL? I've seen this sort of area at VB and the All Stars, but I've not noticed these anywhere else.

The children's area is right near the check-in desk, behind the bell services stand. It's not as big or nice as the room at OKW, but it does have some nice chairs (couch?) and a big screen television. I've often thought that it was a great idea, especially since WL/VWL always seems to be the longest wait for check-in that we incur at any resort. Never bothers me though because I can just soak in the atmosphere of the lobby. :)

I know if I go to check in between 3 and 4:30 to expect a line. At other times I have never really had one. I try to check in before that or after that just to avoid the line thing--I'd rather eat lunch, wander about DTD or whatever than stand in line if the line can be avoided. If it can't be avoided then I just get in it--no biggie, I'll have a lot more lines to stand in before the trip is over!

It is not the check in line that bother me , just when the room should be ready at 4 PM and it is not. In my opinion, 4 PM is a late check in time anyway and you should not have to wait beyond that to get your room

We have never made reservations at other the eleven month window therefore if we ask for a particular floor, (#1 or #5), and we are offered something different, we have waited for something to open up before accepting the room. Likewise, if the room offered is a handicap room we have not accepted it. If our staying was just for a short period of time we may compromise but seeing that our stay is normally two to four weeks, we hold out fore something requested. Our belief is if we have made reservations at the eleven month window (one day at a time) we should receive a room somewhat to our request.
We were told on one occasion that the handicap room was all that was available and they may not have anything else, we said no and waited in the lobby for about two hours and sure enough something more desirable became available.
Seeing that our stay in a longer one, we have no rush to get into ths parks.

153 days until we will be standing in line waiting for the room assignment. :)

Hate waiting in that line. Don't know what takes them so long to check in, but it always takes forever.

There is a childrens area in SSR with a TV. We usually plop the kids down once we get to check in. Never had to wait too long. I'm usually just so damn happy to be there, I don't care. We always drive so we don't have to worry about the DME. I suppose we would just go get something to eat and then come back later if we saw it as we pulled up.
