I still call my parents mommy and daddy even though I'm 25 and married. Do you?

mine are mother and daddy. i used to call mine mama...don't remember when she became mother. DD13 still calls us mommy and daddy, even though some of her classmates tease her for it when they hear her.

Ummmm....no. :)

My father is long gone, he was "daddy" up until I was about seven or so I think. Then Dad. My mom has always been...MOM. Or MO-THER (with two distinct syllables) when I was a teen having an attitude. ;)

My own mother called her father Daddy until the day he died at age 93. Our daughter stopped using mama and daddy by age four or five. No one in our family was EVER called "mommy".

DH calls his parents by their first names, so do most of his brothers and sisters. I called my parents Mom and Dad.

No, not since I was very little. That would feel very awkward to me.

I don't think I have called my folks mommy and daddy since I was a toddler. I call them Mom and Dad, my DH calls his folks Mom and Pop.

Sometimes. But since they became grandparents, my brothers and I have gotten into the habit of calling them "Nanny and Papa" because that's what the kids call them :lovestruc

For me was Daddy until the day he died at 87 and when I was about 10 Daddy said it was time to call Mommy --Mother. Now my sister and I called my Mothers parents Mom and Dad as that is what she and her siblings called them as well as all our cousins. but our Dad's parents we did call grandma and Grandpa. worked for us and I am 67 now and sister 62:cheer2:

God no and it kills me to even hear people on the Dis refer to their parents that way. I always think they must have a disturbed relationship with their parents or worse!!

Nice.

To answer the question, I've always said Mom and Daddy.

I feel the same way.

My DD used to call me Mommy when she was a toddler but not after and my DS has never called me anything but Mom.

I have referred to their Dad as Daddy as in hurry up and pick up all these toys Daddy is on his way home, when they were little, BUT they have never called him Daddy!

What an incredibly rude thing to say. :snooty: Nothing disturbed (or worse) about it, thanks so much for your concern. :sad2: For those of us who called our parents Mama and Daddy, it was likely a cultural thing. Growing up, everyone I knew used those names. Everyone. My brother was in his 60s when our "mother" died and he still called her Mama. Many Southern children grew up using these words. They were LOVING words.

The only time I heard "Mom" and "Dad" was when I watched sitcoms as a child. I suppose I wasn't quite as narrow minded as some, because it never occurred to me those children might have disturbed relationships with their parents since they used different terms.....I just thought they grew up in another part of the country.

If I'd ever called Mama "Mother," I'm sure there would have been sass involved on my part and consequences following on hers. :lmao:

I didn't mean to insult people it just is so over the top to me and does make me think something isn't right there!!:scared1::scared1::scared1:

LOL it never occurred to me that I might have a disturbed relationship with my parents. We're just a normal family. I asked this question because someone at work heard me call my mother mommy on the phone and she said she stopped calling her mother that when she was 7 or 8. I was just curious about what others call their parents. We're not disturbed people, honest!

You really don't see how that could come across as insulting? Really?

If that's the truth, you might want to work on your people skills. How you can fail to see that the comment was outrageously insulting is beyond me. At best, you think anyone who uses the terms has a disturbed relationship with their parents and at worst..........Well, you don't put it into words, but what's WORSE than disturbed?

I hardly think such a comment could be taken as a compliment or even as a neutral observation. No, it was a flat out insult.

I'll put on my flame suit. I cringe every time I hear a grown woman call her father "daddy." I guess whatever floats your boat & all but to me it sounds wrong coming from anyone over 10.

Sorry. Flame away.

I really truly don't understand why it would sound wrong. I just thought it was preference, habit or culture. I never thought there was anything cringe-worthy about it. I just learned something new on the DIS and I'm not being sarcastic! :goodvibes

Then don't go much south of Colorado, or you'll be cringing a great deal. There are many beloved daddies down here....even the ones with middle aged children.
