Do you call your credit card company when traveling (within the US)

I last went to WDW last April and i don't recall that i contacted my CC company to inform them that i was traveling. And I did not encounter any issues. I am wondering if it is necessary? If so do you call to inform them of where you are going?

We are from MA and will be going to WDW. i figure it can't hurt to call as i have been hit with fraudulent charges in the past and having my card turned off while im away might cause a little headache.

I haven't called them, but there's a way to do that online and I do so with my MasterCard. Years ago, I ran into a hassle (my own fault), and had my credit card declined, because they thought my Universal tickets were a fraud purchase.

I only call if I am leaving the country or going to a new place. My credit card company knows very well how often I go to WDW. :teeth:

I do for any out of state travel. It’s done online and easy peasy. Did it after my card was denied one.. I was mortified! Called them and they apologized and noted the account. They now Text an alert after the charge goes thru and you have to acknowledge it’s ok or tell them Fraud.they don’t just deny.

A rash of credit card fraud in our part of the State has made the CC banks skittish.
I was denied in a town just twenty miles from home.
After that incident I notify them if I'm leaving the state or even going to another corner of the state.

If you have travel-oriented credit cards it's often not necessary - I called in before about domestic travel and they said there was no need since it's a travel card. Now I only call for international travel and they haven't declined charges made in other states.

Not usually. Last time I traveled out of state there were no questions asked. When we got home I tried to get gas 30 miles from my house and was shot down. Go figure.

I would rather them freeze the account if necessary. If you notify them that you will be on vacation in Orlando and your card is skimmed while there, charges will show up from Florida and not be questioned. We have had our card skimmed twice while at WDW, one year at BCV and another year at BWV. The cards were only used at the front desk at each resort and the scumbags used our account at Walmart's, gas stations and a best buy in Florida.

My Amex was denied at a local Target. When I called to inquire, the answer was, "We thought it was stolen. Target isn't your history." LOL. Yep, sure 'nuf.

South Africa? Yes, I called and had no troubles. AU? I think I called the first visit but not the second but by then the travel was already documented by cruise fare charged to the same credit card. Canada? No. Mexico ... hmmm, maybe as I might have it blocked?

I think we got a notice from Chase Disney Visa that we didn't need to notify them anymore, but we still notify them when leaving the country.

My credit card company told me. The card I bought plane tixs with sent me an e-mail the other day, the jist of it saying, “based off the plane tixs you bought we see your travel is coming up. We’re putting a note in your file.”

I got that same email. Used it for about a thousand bucks including $200 or so at Walmart on Vineland Rd before being declined for a couple of subs at Wawa right next door. Always when there's a huge line, of course. I don't think providing that info is useful. It's all an algorithm they use and usually they let you reactivate by text or the app within a few minutes.

I don't if I am traveling in the US. I received an email from our credit card that I used to purchase plane tickets that they were aware of our upcoming trip.
If I am traveling outside the country, i always notify the credit card company.

My soon to be ex had a job where he traveled globally half the year from ‘09 to ‘16. Never had a single issue. I could use my card in Tacoma and he could buy a latte in Novosibirsk (Russia, just above Kazakhstan) and there were no issues and we never notified our card providers.

And one day at the most touristy shop in San Juan, which is, of course, part of the US, both cards were declined.

They could track us across the country then onto the ship then to the other islands...but for some reason the bamboo sheet franchise in a US territory is where they drew the line with us.

Irritating.

Thankfully it was business hours and it was quickly resolved.

Only other time we had an issue was at a gas station near lax. Went to fill up before returning the rental. He pulled in on the wrong side but thought the hose wound reach. Ran the card, realized it wouldn’t reach, and in the time it took to move the car the right way the authorization ran out. Scanned it again and it declined.

I had my Chase Disney Visa declined in MA when I was visiting my mother, from our home in Texas. Since then, I've tried to remember to contact them when we travel. Didn't know I might be able to do it on-line.

The last two times we traveled to WDW my husband's bank froze his credit and debit cards because he didn't call them. Luckily we have different bank accounts and mine work every time. Or it could be that I go to Disney so much my bank just assumes it's me and never declines it. :mickeybar

I travel quite a bit around the U.S. and have never informed my cc company, so far no issues. I have a few different credit cards that I could use though, so I highly doubt that they would all be declined.

Yes, we do. We drive a lot and always use credit card for gas. It was denied while in another state. Had to get on phone, fix things, etc. So, from now on we always inform cc company of travel.
