Do you call Maintenance or Housekeeping?

We usually.................

  • look over the room when we check in and call

  • call as things are found during our stay

  • make mental notes and forget to call before check out

  • don't bother / can't be bothered / are afraid

Just wondering if the majority of members call for these services to fix or replace problems or items in thier room when found not in order or even ready for use. The second option assumes that you dont check the room when first arriving, the first would assume that you would also call for anything else you found. The last 2 are as written.

We take notes, and, if the problem is minor we deal with it and tell them at check out... if it is major we call right away... but we dont inspect the room upon arrival, we write stuff down as it comes up.

The reason I ask is simple things like finding the coffey pot with the wrong container puzzles me. I would have to hope that the last members did'nt use it or else they must have had some mess to clean every time since the pot was for a different base and you couldn't rig it to work. Also the shower in the 2nd bedroom had a terribly clogged drain that left you in your filthy water past your ankles. We had several other minor things that we encountered during our stay, but the reason for this post is to let members know that everything was usually "fixed" within an hour with or without us in the room. I am sure that the people who checked in our room on Christmas Eve when we left were that much haipper with their magical stay since we "took care of" the minor things for them and us. Not a bashing post, but I think members are hesitant to call as if they are bothering the people we pay to have the rooms ready for us prior to check in.

It depends on what it is. If it's something that will affect our stay, I would call right away. If it's something minor that does not affect our stay, I will leave a note at checkout. For example, after we checked into our room at BWV earlier this month, I plugged my laptop into the outlet next to the couch. It was a 4 station outlet, I discovered the right 2 didn't work. I moved my plug to the left side and it worked. I really didn't want maintenance men coming in during our stay to work on it, so I left a note at checkout. If it was something like a drain was clogged, I would call right away.

Though not a perfectionist, I expect things in the room to be clean and in good working order. If not, I call maintenence-housekeeping and they always respond promptly and efficiently. For example a slightly slow drain for us could be a backed up drain for the next person who uses the room if not reported and taken care of.

I will generally look over the room when we first arrive for anything that's glaringly obvious, and then call if things come up during the stay. I like to report things I find right away because I don't want to get blamed for them.

We just call as we find things. We are currently at BWV, and the first time I went to close the bathroom door I realized the lock part was missing - the little pin you push in to lock the door. I called engineering the next morning, as we would be going out, and by the time we returned, they had come and fixed it. They always leave a little card stating that someone had come to service the room while we were out.
I find it hard to believe that the previous guests didn't notice this and call about it.

We call first thing when we get to the room to Maitenance to tell them, We DON"T WANT ANY WORK ON THE ROOM WHILE WE ARE THERE. I do not like the idea that mait. is in the room when we are at the parks. Also we, DW & I, got DVC so we would not have to put our things away every day for housekeeping. We don't like having stuff out when we know Housekeeping is coming.

We just call as we see issues. If we see something right when we enter the room at check-in, we call then (a burnt out light bulb was the "problem" on our last check in. Or later in our stay, we might see something askew or missing, and we call right away. It doesn't bother us if they're there while we're out...in fact we prefer that so our "down time" is not disturbed.:)

I have learned to to try and check obvious things upon arrival. Drains, clean linens, pillows, blankets, toilet. This way when we come home at night we won't have to deal with any of those things. Then we call as need, which there is usually no need. I don't think they inspect things on any regular basis, so I think we are the ones who find things that aren't as they should be. Once I thought I was going blind or something---the light bulbs were soooooo dim. Called and they replaced some but not all. That was a weird situation.

The first time we found something amiss in our room and called. The person who arrived shortly there after to make the repair said, "Thank you so much for calling this in. Try as hard as we can we never find everything and it is members like you who help us maintain Old Key West the way all of us want it to be."

We don't go around with a magnifying glass or white gloves, but when we see something needing repair, replacement, or cleaning we report it promptly. Housekeeping/Maintenance has always seemed grateful for the notification and repairs, replacement, cleaning has always been promptly taken care of.

And yes, we do tip the housekeepers when we leave.

Unless it's something that is really bad to live with (i.e., blood on the sheets or something gross like that), lol, I don't bother calling. There were only 2 spoons in our studio last week at VWL and I never bothered to call. I just re-washed the same ones over and over. I did leave a note for the housekeeper on our T&T day, but I guess she didn't see it.

just depends upon what it is - but I generally call - the door to the balcony would not open - one of the cabinets doors was broken (almost falling off)

I have also had trouble with the air-conditioning - this was kinda of fun - first they tried to tell me it was because I was so close to the elevators - yes we were - but we were 2 doors down - if those people did not have a problem why were we - anyway they (he had to called his manager, who calls engineering, who called the company.....) fixed it finally.

also had some trouble with bugs.

at one resort had trouble getting the key to work - when they first went to the all in one cards. that was a headache had to go through several people back and forth to the room before they finally found someone who could fix it.

all the rooms where I have had the most problems had the best view - so they were generally worth it to me....however I could understand someone else asking to move.

I call as I find things during my stay light bulbs have been only problem I can remember.

It is nice to see that DVC members on the DIS care about their stays and will try to fix anything they come across. 98% of our stays have been problem free and look foward to many more that way.
