Do You Call Before You Poolhop?

I just pool hopped last week for the first time (we went to VWL). I didn't even think to call until I was already in the pool Just wondering if you call or not.

The only time we ever pool hopped we called over to the VWL and were told that we could come on by. The odd thing was that the CMwho answered said something to the effect of "don't bother calling us unless it's a busy time of year"

I was under the impression that we were supposed to call each time. Who knows?h

When we called the front desk at SSR about hopping to other hotels, the person seemed to have no idea what we were talking about, and spent about 3-4 minutes trying to get an answer for me from someone who would know.

I've called 100% of the time I wanted to pool hop... once. Tried this summer (mid June). Called POFQ and was told not to come. Oh, well. Not that big a deal, just thought nephews would enjoy the slide.

It's a no win proposition. If you call, you can't rely on the information. If you don't call, you may be asked to leave once you get there. IMO, this is an area where DVC and Disney fall down on service.

We have only pool hopped once from BWV to the BC before BCV's came along. The CM who answered the phone had no idea why we were calling.

We don't pool hop. We resort hop, but usually for a break, a meal, or boating.

We only called once and they had no clue what we were talking about (and that was after being on hold for what seemed like ever) ~ so now we just show up at the pool (we only hop during periods that are aloud of course). We do keep a copy I printed out from the DVC members website that states the poolhopping priveliges and guidlines in case we're ever questioned and of course our resort I.D. that says DVC member. So far though, no one has even blinked an eye which actually bugs me because if they aren't checking us and we're entitled to pool hop, it's no wonder there is such a problem with pool crashing! I do have to say though, I have seen them randomely check i.D.'s at the Poly and watched them ask people to leave and of course at Y&B at SAB but it definetly needs to be done alot more often But back to the original question, we don't bother anymore since the CM's don't seem to have a clue anyway we do however make sure that we have our I.D's and go during the times we are aloud.

We used to call but we had so many problems with CMs not understanding what we wanted to do or not knowing that DVC members can pool hop, etc. So now when we pool hop -- which is very frequently anymore -- we just show up. If it's crowded we leave.

Edited to add: Scootch, I should have read your response before posting my own! It sounds like we've had very similar experiences!

Thanks for all the responses! I never thought I would pool hop, but we actually had a lot of fun doing it I don't know how often we will do it in the future, though.
