Do you buy your adult children anything for valentines day?

Adult child chiming in here. My mother buys us things on every holiday. EVERY HOLIDAY.

I sometimes wish she would just buy herself something or just buy candy! Most of the stuff she sends ends up in the charity bag. She sends things like coloring books and scented pens and such; we don't have children. Cute and all, but I don't have a need or a want. I try to find a kid and I re-gift.

My husband and I do gifts and cards for each other, this year we are taking a small trip instead.

This is a very interesting read. I've never gotten anything for valentine's day from my mother, including when I was a child. Now I feel like I need to go cry neglect. :rotfl2:

My dad still gives me candy :)

My kids are not adults, but I will most likely continue to get them little token gifts when they are.

My kids are still little - 6 and 8. I bought them each a small thingy of chocolate. Doubt I would do it when they are older. :confused3

I thought Valentine's Day was supposed to be for couples, not SIL, BIL, DGD and uncle Tom Cobleigh!!!! Guess this is one more thing that you guys do different in the US!!

Its different here too. I've never heard of buying for anyone other than your partner. Even then, it was something we tended to do when we were younger.

Add me to the list too. I never received a gift from my parents and I never even thought about giving anything to my daughter.

My mum used to get me something for Valentines, even as an adult. I have always had a romantic nature, I like cards and hearts and flowers, and she would get me a new stamp or some pretty paper and a few chocolate treats. It was just a kind gesture to let me know I was thought of. I, too, miss my mother terribly.

I celebrate "love" on Valentine's Day, and since I love my kids, they get a little something. Before I had kids I would just give to dh, definitely not aunts, uncles, ILs etc....

I think when my kids were little I'd buy those candy hearts but they exchanged valentines at school and got candy there so I really didn't do much. I've never really got my sweetheart anything for VD, but of course I was single for many, many years. This will be only my second VD with fiance and I hadn't really thought about it other than to make a nice dinner. Now i"m thinking I'll go to that fancy bakery down the street and get them each a nice VD cupcake for breakfast ~ I always get one for everyon'e birthday breakfast, its fun for first thing in the morning and it doesn't break the bank;)

I get my 3 children something every year (they are 20,17 and 14 years old).

DH and I exchange cards and candy.
DFIL ALWAYS sent his daughters and daughter In laws a card. Sadly, he passed away ON valentines day last year. We miss him terribly.

My mom used to give my sister and I little goody bags. Last year and this year she is giving our families steak dinners. <3

My mom always sends at least a valentine card to me and my husband's mother used to give us candy, or bake heart sugar cookies for us before she passed away. So, now I send my adult kids something fun. I usually give them a fun valentine card with something tucked in that they can use. (This year it is movie tickets, when they were in college it was a gift card for groceries!).

I agree with the PP that it is a holiday to celebrate love, and I love my kids so I send them something. I think they like it. :thumbsup2

For what ever reason my husband sees no reason for exchanging gifts (Christmas included).....his theory is "if I need something I'll buy it for myself" ..... sadly I am a "gifter" - I love buying gifts and the thought that goes into them so .... I indulge my kids and granddaughter.

This is my husband too. I still get him a funny card, and then I put in something for us to do together like a gift card to a favorite restaurant or movie tickets etc...

I have to laugh at the idea of my mom getting me something for Valentine's Day. Has never and would never happen.

No. I've always just made a special dessert or something at home and that's the only acknowledgement. (once they got past their school parties and all that went with that anyway) This year, we happen to be seeing our college aged son at a concert in a nearby city this week so I'll be giving him two bags of cookies to take back to his dorm - one for him and one for his girlfriend.

Just mailed my cards to my mom (with scratch tickets inside) both my daughters in college (with $20 inside) and older daughter's girlfriend ($20 inside - between the two of them they can go out to dinner!). Got hubby a card too, but not sure what to get him as a gift. He likes beer, maybe I'll get him some beer, LOL!

When my Dad was alive, I didn't get my mom anything, but now that he's gone, I don't want her to be sad on Valentine's Day. I want her to feel loved!

I've always bought my two a card and some of their favorite candy. Still do even though my 20 year old son is away at college. I mailed him a box of candy and a card (and some bodywash which he said he needed) last week. His frat brother must think I'm crazy.

Nooo... just jealous :goodvibes

One time I sent my daughter and her husband 2 different restaurant gift cards. One was Subway, the other was Red Lobster, so the amounts were different. I knew they would go out together so I didn't worry about who got what. My DD said her husband told her that I loved him better than her because he got the higher $ gift card
