We went to Disney this past June and I got a bunch of xmas ornaments. dd2 is excited its almost time to put on the tree.
Im kicking myself in the butt cause I didn't pick any out from our D.C. trip last fall. At Mount Vernon was a huge display of different xmas ornaments in the giftshop having to do with president Washington. I don't know why I didn't get any.:confused3 I need a butt kicking smilie.

Anyone else buy xmas ornaments from their travels?

Yes indeed! It is the only souvenir I buy and I love when we put up the tree we all talk about the ornaments and the trips.

Usually.

I have also been known to give people money to buy ornaments on their travels. Especially if it is a place I might not get to. :)

We started a tradition of buying those gold filigree ornaments you see just about at all tourist locations. They come in red boxes and must be made by the same company. Each is unique design to its area. And all so together nice on the tree. And they don't break. :)

Same here about it being the only souvinier we buy now. Usually around $12 or less.

Its fun to revisit places in our thoughts as we decorate the tree. And we don't have a house full of cluttery knick-knacks that you have to dust or tire of seeing every day.

The only time my DW and I buy new ornaments is while on vacation, I was against it at first but I have come to realize that my DW had a great idea as it makes the holiday very special because we can reminisce about our past Disney trips and other vacations while putting up our Thor's Oak (Solstice tree). :thumbsup2

Yes - we just came back with a glittery Minnie Mouse from Liberty Square. It cost $18, but we'll think of our trip every year when we hang it on the tree :)

Only Disney ones. Gotta watch out for the Disney's Days of Christmas store in DTD. Unleash me in there and who knows what I'll come out with! :lmao:

Thats exactly my thought....to reminise and remember year after year of our family vacations. Its so fun to see the kids get excited over ornaments:goodvibes

We were given Bronners xmas store in Frankenmuth ornaments for a wedding gift. They were personalized with our names. These are the very fancy blown glass ornaments, they are beautiful. I think ornaments are such a special personal gift. We still put them on the tree 15yrs. later and of course talk about our wedding day:love:

Always and on every vacation. I think I'm going to need two Christmas trees if I keep buying the way I do...

hahaha! i'm the same way! i could spend an entire afternoon in that place! i always come home with something (or 2, 3, or 4 somethings!) new for our tree!

Always-it is great fun to pull them out each year and reminisce. I bought a bunch at Mount Vernon in June-I hope I remember where I put them :lmao:. I know they have a website and you can order from the website if you still want to get some.

I think I want that lamp on the home page :lmao:.

Absolutely. As somebody said on a separate thread, I, like them, am a Christmasoholic. I love buying Christmas ornaments. I can't wait for the new Hallmark book of ornaments to come out every year and have even been known to pre-order them. So, buying at Disney World is even better because there is a memory to attach to them! DH and I were talking about how we may have to put up 2 Christmas trees this year. I have no idea where we'd put a 2nd one. We really don't have the room. However, if there is a will, there is a way. That will be our first "to do" when we come home from vacation, besides going back to work, that is.

My DH and I buy a Christmas ornament and a glass from each major vacation. Those are the only souvenirs that we buy so it helps us keep a budget.

Yes. My family did that every year, Disney or not. The Christmas tree is like a family timeline now. An ornament for every year and/or trip!

Why yes, we do have a brass Christmas ornament from Mt Vernon.

Eat your heart out. ;)

Christmas ornaments and sweatshirt/t-shirts are just about the only souvenirs we buy. One time I bought a Spectromagic CD, and another time we bough a picture frame shaped like a castle (3 yrs ago, no pictures in it YET!)

I bought beautiful Italian glass ornaments in Epcot, and some really cute reindeer ornaments at a gift store at Universal. I also have a tinkerbell sitting on a snowflake. My daughter has Minnie inside a glass bulb and my son has the same one with Mickey. It is fun to have these special ornaments to remember our trips at Christmas time.

On a side note, I have given a single ornament from a set to each of my 3 friends (I have the fourth). That way, no matter where we end up in life, we will always think of each other when we decorate the tree!

Yes, we started a long time ago and have one whole tree in our finished basement devoted to our travel ornaments. It's my favorite tree, not necessarily the most beautiful, but full of fun, fun memories! We put the year we travelled wherever the ornament is from on it with a thin black sharpie.

If anyone is interested in Washington DC type ornaments, there is a White House Christmas ornament put out each year that features a different president/historical aspect of the White House. They are beautiful and collectibles. There is a website you can order them off of. I have one for each year since 1998 when we moved there and was given one as a gift by a friend who is a wife of a Marine officer. We go back to DC each year and I get them from the White House Visitor Center.

I've always wanted to go to Frankenmuth in Michigan for the Christmas store there!

I love to buy Christmas ornaments from vacations! One year I put a two foot tree on a small table in the corner of the dining room and put all our "souvenir" ornaments on it: Disney, Williamsburg, beach vacations, different cities we visited, Europe. It was really nice. :)

Yes, - I've been collecting ornaments from my vacations for years. I think an ornament is the best souvenir and this year (just like the previous poster) I'm going to put a small tree in the living room (big tree is in the family room) and decorate it with the ornaments from our trips. I will be the "travel tree".
