Do you buy insurance if you book a room only stay?

Not sure if I should buy trip insurance as I booked a room only (no pkg). I did buy airline tix seperately and only get a credit if we don't go.

But what about trip insurance? Should i be getting this?

I don't get trip insurance for my room only reservations. I have always thought it wasn't worth the cost since I can cancel up to 5 days prior.

In the past my flights haven't been expensive so I haven't bothered getting it for the flights either.
Now that the cost of flying has gone up, I may have to change that but that will be on a case by case basis for me.

If you are room-only your deposit is only the cost of the first night, including tax. You can cancel without penalty up to five days prior to arrival. If you cancel less than five days out, or do not cancel, all you will lose is the deposit. With these policies in effect, why waste your money on trip insurance?

Ok, that is what I was thinking. I don't mind the possibility of losing one night's stay, vs paying for travel insurance. To me it's worth the gamble I guess.

The only time I've bought travel insurance was for our Disney cruise. That is because it's paid in full ahead of time, so we're covered if someone is hurt or very sick and can't go.

For any other travel, I don't think it's always necessary. Five days cancellation is a decent amount of time - so I wouldn't bother.
