Do you bring a tripod into the parks?

I was wondering because since it's just DH and I, we seldom get GOOD pictures of the two of us together, so I was wondering if anyone brings a tripod into the parks for pictures.

If so, do you have a really compact tripod? Where could I get one?

My DH did bring his tripod into the parks the first few days. He used it a few times to take night pictures where you have to be very still. My DH is a camera addicit. He spent more on the camera and accessories then I spent on the whole trip. I know he found his tripod at Circuit City. It was collapsable and fit in his camera gear bag. That bag is the size of a large backpack but has special compartments for camera stuff. PM me if you want the brand. I need to be at home to take a look at it.

DH frequently brings his tripod along on the trip. Most often he uses it to take a picture of us together at our resort rather than carrying it to the parks. Although, the one he has is light weight enough that he has occasionally carried it with him all day. He got it so long ago I don't recall where he got it. ::MinnieMo

I bought a compact tripod to take to the parks with me. It cost around $15 at Best Buy. It also came with a bag and is very light weight.

Thanks all4fun! I just ordered 2...1 for us and 1 for a good friend of ours who was looking for something just like this. ::MinnieMo

I have a mini tripod that fits in my fanny pack. I usually park it on top of trash cans etc to stabilize it.

This is exactly what we have. So far, it's met our needs.

I would be terrified of my camera getting knocked off (it's a Kodak DX7590 - not cheap (for us at least!) and I protect it like it's one of my children :rotfl2: )

I have 2 of those. One is really "flat" when you fold it up and the other is a bit bulkier but they work the same. I have a bogen tripod but it's too big to lug around all day.

I bought my min-tripods on ebay for just a few bucks. I think the shipping ($4.50) was more than the tripod--lol

I brought it one time to take night pictures, but otherwise I don't bring it.

I love my gorrilapod:lovestruc

I second the vote for a gorillapod.

It weighs next to nothing, and it gets into my small bag with no problem.

I have the smaller one --- my camera is a teeny casio, and I leave the little tab screwed into the cameral all the time. I feel like it's double locking system is also really secure in holding the camera.

AND you can get shots from some unusual places, which is always fun.

Make that 3 votes!!!! That thing is so cool. And really works. Fits in your pocket and is strong enough to hold the camera anywhere. I got mine at the Eddie Bauer Outlet.

If you mean to set it up to take a pic of you and your DH, I think I'd be afraid to step away from it.
Alot of folks don't notice stuff like that and it would get knocked over.

Plus someone could grab it and take off. So please be careful!

I love my Gorillapod. I have the one for dSLRs and it holds mine up pretty well. The grippyness really keeps it secure to almost anything. I definitely recommend it because you can make the legs straight like a traditional tripod or you can wrap them around poles, etc.
