Do you boycott companies?

:sad2: :sad2: I boycotted Starbucks for years after 9/11/01 when they charged emergency workers $130 for a case of bottled water to treat the wounded at ground zero.

I don't blame the stupid worker that did it - they are programmed to do their job and are prone to momentary lapses in judgement - but even after the manager and corporate office was made aware of the blunder, they refused to refund the poor emergency worker's money (which he paid out of pocket!).

It wasn't until it became a media circus that corporate finally did the right thing - and I don't think they ever would have if the media hadn't made them out to be the crooks that they were.

Boo Starbucks!!! :confused3

WTH?? :confused3 AIDS doesn't really exist? Where on earth did they get THAT idea?

They must be from outer space if they think that AIDS doesn't exist. :teleport: :rolleyes1 :rolleyes2  :crazy2:

It's nothing new..Denialist have been around forever..They prey often on the newly infected who want to believe anything aside of the fact that they have AIDS.. When I have confronted a few of these people with the fact that I in fact took no drugs and was on active duty in the Marine Corps when diagnosed,I have been accused of lying.. I have had them tell me my disease was caused by anything from jews(Yes,it's a Jewish conspiracy) to illegal drug use too Captain Crunch.
These groups are led by Dr Duesberg..They even go so far as to tell infected people to go ahead and have unportected sex,as there is no disease called AIDS

Here is one article

SNIP

I didn't want to quote your whole article.

All I can do is shake my head after reading this. I'd boycott them, but I've never heard of them before and wouldn't have given them a dime anyway.

Its's not a company but I will not buy or listen to anything by the Foo Fighters..They advertize and support groups that teach that AIDS is a myth and does not really exist. They even link to them on their web-sites
The site says among other things

AIDS is a toxic disease caused by either long-term recreational drug abuse or short-term anti-HIV medications," writes a 22-year-old member of the Alive and Well-affiliated Students Reappraising AIDS on the Foo Fighters' Web-based message board. "HIV is not spread sexually, nor is it the cause of any disease

WOW! I didn't know anything about that. That is crazy!

Jenny, thanks for the article.

I cannot believe there are such idiotic people in this world. And what is terrifying is that the Foo Fighters are an incredibly popular group and have been for a while now. And to think literature has been distributed at their concerts... Good God.

I boycott Coors beer because of Pete Coors' political views...well, that and the fact that Coors beer tastes like watered-down pee.

No boycott of Boppy here. Had no idea it was only for breast feeding exclusively. So as a dad, I guess I should be restricted from using it for my daughter?!? Doesn't anyone use it just to sit their munchkins in it when they are on the phone, or posting on the DIS, you know...important stuff like that? IMO, sometimes the La Leche League loses touch with reality a little bit.

Is it one of Boppy's competitors that is saying to boycott it? I always thought of our Boppy as a breastfeeding pillow, and I've seen it promoted as such in much of the nursing literature I've read.

RickinNYC--You come to Kansas City, and I'll treat ya to a chicken pot pie at the local Cracker Barrel:)

As some people know from other threads , I boycott Walmart for many , many reasons. I boycott Home-depot as well ( service is terrible anyway) , I boycott COORS product ( and Molson too now in canada since these companies merged) and most fast-food outlet ( that one is difficult !) and Mc Donalds in Particular since they have publicity targetted at childreen , closed stores due to unionisation and serve crap. ( but a Big Mac is soo good !)

I am working toward boycotting Coca-Cola products as well , since they seem to be responsible for the death of union organisers in south america and knowingly polluted fields were poor people were harvesting for yearsin Africa. I said working on because I have an " addiction " to diet coke !

I think that buying is voting ! And I try to put my money where my mouth is.

I never really understood the purpose of a boycott. Here's why.

Let's say that I do not agree with Sam Walton's "beliefs" so I refuse to shop at Sam Waltons stores. Does the Walton Family even realize I'm not there?

Or- lets say that enough people do get together and 5,000 of us decide to stop shopping at the SAME walmart....by the time the Waltons family realizes it, the people who have been hurt first, are the people who work at that local walmart. Once sales drop, well hours get cut, etc.. The Walton family isnt going to notice the 32 cents it lost on the whole, but the family who went from 40 hours a week to 20 sure is!

I dunno, I guess i just dont get it

I don't boycott normally but I did jump on the boycott tuna bandwagon. That boycott did cause some attention too and made a positive impact.

I will avoid the Foo Fighters too now and so will my son. This news needs to get out to everyone!

It is a shame that they are doing that to boppy. As a former Bfer and LLL girl I think the "loud" ones make the noise and give the rest of us a bad name. I love my Boppy and used it for many things beside Bfing. After 3 kids it has gone to a better place :rotfl:, too many rips and stains to pass on.

Well, I'd forgotten about Walmart. I don't boycott Walmart, I just choose not to shop there. I do go in their doors from time to time with friends (who love it) though. I also wouldn't do without a product if Walmart was the only place I could get it. That's never been the case yet though.

I boycotted Burger King for awhile, because their fries are gross. ;)

I agree, they used to have the best fries, but then all of the sudden, they got rid of them and started serving the things they try to pass off as fries now. They do have some good onion rings though.

What boycott , on an individual base does m is that it sends a message. You are going to tell it to a person , who is going to tell it to another , and so on.

When I bycott Mceedee , or Wally , or coorsee , i know i am against a big machine that there is little hope for me to defeat , but my conscience is good.
But I feel that I have power over my life and my choices , and when I get the occasion to tell about my conviction , it is another person , and so on.

When people started to boycott GAp because of some prsctices they had while producing there clothes , GAP , changed somethings ( and there is still work to do for them )

No, it's, ah, very forceful breastfeeding advocates. (Not the LLL, by the way.) I orginally bought it as a breastfeeding pillow, but we end up using it all day to sit in, sleep in, do Tummy Time in... I've also given him a bottle (of breastmilk!) in it.

While I think "boycott" is probably too strong a word, I generally try to avoid buying products from companies who test products on animals. It's hard to keep track of, though, and I'm sure there are some things I buy that I probably shouldn't!

I am permanently boycotting a local decorating store that screwed me out of some money and provided horrible service even after spending several thousands of dollars there. I know of several other people that have had the same experience and are doing the same thing. I am sure they are feeling our boycott if you want to call it that since most of the people I know not doing business with them anymore were BIG customers.

I am boycotting the Cheesecake Factory! They stopped making my favorite cheesecake! :guilty:

I had no idea about the Foo Fighters, thanks for the heads up on that.
