Thinking, about sqeezing in another trip to WDW. I have never had to borrow points. Usually, have a few left over to bank. Just curious as to how many people borrow points from one year to the next??

We've been in permanent borrowing status for 3 years. Obviously we don't have enough points, but can't really afford more right now.

Last year we had points to bank. But next year we have booked a GV, a two bedroom and 2 one bedrooms for a big family week, so we had to borrow some. I considered booking standard view instead of BW view to avoid borrowing but decided to splurge.

A few every year, really figure I will be so old at the end of our contract I could care less.

We have thus far and we plan on doing it almost every year until we run out, or need to buy more. I think if we get to the point where we're banking a good chunk of our pts every year, we'll end up selling/renting. I'd rather have not enough than too much. Truth be told, we go about 3 weeks a year, stay in studios, and have 200 pts.

No we haven't had to yet. We go 2 times a year and stay in a studio on 160 pts. But we started out with a loaded resell contract so we were ahead of the curve from the beginning. If I see that 160 won't cut I will add on a smallish contract to cover our Christmas trip which is usually only 4-5 days....Shawnpirate:

We borrowed for our trip in March, but will then bank the remainder. We bought 200 pts and plan to go every other year. So we borrow some of the points from the year we aren't going and then bank the rest from that year for the trip the following year.

We are always in borrowing mode. It's been that way for a number of years now.

We have 500 points and have been borrowing for 10 years. To me borrowing is easier than figuring out when to bank. All borrowing means is you will not be able to travel the last year of your contract, no big deal.

We borrowed for the first ten years we owned until dd hit high school and we couldn't do as many long weekends because of high school tennis....still borrow once in awhile from our smaller Vero or Hilton Head contracts.

We always borrow, every year. Then we add on and we still borrow.

borrow....buy......borrow....buy......Its a vicious cycle, there's no turning back from the dark side :darth: Its your destiny........

So far, we have not had to do this and we are hoping not to have to do it very often

Because of the way we bought and the extra points we got for when we added on, we have had extra points to bank the past few years.

By 2012, however, those extra points will have run out so we will have to stay within our 210 point limit or start borrowing.

Of course, by then, I am hoping to convince DH to add on more points. Even with the rumors about resale points being restricted, if the price goes down far enough, I think he would let me add on at either BCV or BWV in a few years.

We joined in 2006 and have never yet had a year when we didn't borrow...in fact, most years when I hit the end of my points (current and borrowed), I added on... I now have 5 add-on's to go w/my master, for a total of 515 points...

"We" are myself and my DS (who's as big a Disney nut as I am)...he will be finished w/law school in May of 2012 and then his trips will be limited to his annual vacation times...not like when you're a student (or self-employed and able to bring work with you)! So I'm resisting yet another add-on, given that our points use may (note, not "will" but "may") drop in another 18 months...so I found a wonderful fellow DISer from whom I can rent (either reservations or do a transfer)...

Bottom line is that I've cheerfully joined the many here on the DIS (and elsewhere) for whom there just doesn't seem to be a number of points that's "enough." But that's ok...I now have a 150-point master contract, a 115-point contract, a 100-point contract and 3 50-point contracts...if it ever turns out that I actually do go less frequently, I'll be able to sell one or more of my "little ones"...

I'm ok with my points total (until the next add-on--grin) and with being in a "permanent" borrowing mode...I figure it's among the best purchases I've ever made...despite the occasional "issue" or glitch, DVC has brought my family (I take other family members, too) and me so much joy!

Happy holidays!

With my DH being a HUGE Star Wars Fan!! This is too funny!!

Up until this point we have not yet had to borrow. But with going so much we seem to be burning through the points a lot faster..

We currently own 700 points. With the intent to eventually own 1,000..I know once our twins hit middle school we will not be going as much. So if I borrow for a trip now it will all work out and that there will come a time that we will not use all of our points in a year!!
