Do you believe PIN codes are random?

I don't believe that PIN codes are sent out as randomly as Disney would have us believe. I've never gotten one and it kills me every time I read here, "I've gotten 2 or 3 a year for the past several years."
How can that be random? Are the same people getting codes over and over?
Where, oh where, is the pixie dust for mee-eee-eee-eee??? :badpc:

From the sounds of who gets them and how often they have visited, it does sound random to me. Some people visit several times a year and get codes all the time whereas other people who visit several times a year have never gotten any. The same is true for those who have only visited once or twice ever.

It seems random to me too, otherwise why would those people get 2-3 a year under a few different emails and such?

I do not have a code as of now, but I am hoping and praying for one. I booked a trip for this fall, but we cannot go unless I can nail a great airfare AND a discount of some sort on our stay.

Maybe Disney is just helping me because I won't be able to find a good airfare rate???:rotfl2:

21 trips since a child...NO CODES.:confused3 I have now gotten 2 that I can't use because they are not in my name. One was for a deceased friend, one somebody I don't know. The thing is I get annoyed because they have my address...This is a BRAND NEW HOUSE AND DEVELOPMENT...so nobody has ever lived here before:confused3

I wonder that myself. I've gotten the 40% the last two years now.

I got it by mail last yr. This year nothing, but I called and started off telling the CM we would be celebrating my son's 10th b'day and would really like to try AKL but can't afford it and was wondering if I had a code - and she found one for me - 40% Off! I still haven't received anything by e-mail or snail mail.

How much does it depend on which CM you talk to?

I am lucky, I get codes. We have gone every 9 months or so for the past few years. We received the 40% pin code for this year and a 20% pin code for last year. I have also received DL, Disney Cruise line and the gift card offer, none of which we used.

That being said, the codes always come to a strange email address or in my maiden name to my parents home (and I have been married more than 11 years). I have never had an issue using them but they never come to my home address or the email that WDW has associated with my ressies.

Perhaps that email keeps getting them since neither that name nor address ever books a trip? :confused3

I just received a 20% code in the mail today. I wish it would have been 40% but those seem to be a bit more elusive. I just ordered the 2009 planning DVD last week...so that may have something to do with it. We got a 40% code last year.

there doesn't seem to be a lot of rhyme or reason to codes and who gets them.:confused3

I'm thrilled we got one though.

I got a 40% code in email. I was so surprised that now I am trying to plan a surprise trip for my little 8 year great niece for August. I have never had anything before so I think it's a fluke..a good one for me tho:)

I received the 40% off code and it is the first time I have ever received one. We've gone every summer for the past 8 years. They sent the same code to three different email addys that I have (I guess they linked them all together) and they also mailed a different code to us on a postcard with my husbands name but my parent's address. He's never lived there, but they have traveled with us to disney so somehow their address got linked to my husbands name. Very strange. I also recevied a different code at a different email addy that is probably registered and linked to my old address.

I'm thinking they might target certain areas though. I live in Northern NJ and a lot of people that I know received the same 40% off code. My best friend has never been, but registered at disney.com because she is considering going and she got one. Two other friends who go quite often received one too.

Sad to hear that, we only had a 5 trips but we had a chance once in our trip. It's a very memorable trip for us because it's the 5th birthday of our DS. Hopefully you can also get a 40% pin code.

Have a nice day. :)

I am not really sure. I have never gotten a pin code since our first trip 6 years ago. But today I got the exact same pin code sent to two different email addresses. I used one email address for our trip 6 years ago, and another for our trip last August..so it does seem to me that it was targeted to people with kids- at least it seems that way!

I've been to WDW at least once a year for the past 6 years and had never gotten a code until last Nov. We took three trips to Disney World in 2008. I got two different free dining codes two weeks after we came back from a WDW trip first week of Nov. And I just got the "kids free" code twice today - two different codes sent to two different email addresses. Planning on going just once this year in October, but I'm so very tempted to use the kids free code. I'm using every ounce of self control I have. With the economy the way it is, I suspect we will see more codes or other good promotions this year, hopefully for when I need it.

This is what I think. I don't think that these Marketing tools are random at all...

I got a 40% pin code this year, within a week of ordering the new vacation planning DVD.

I'm not convinced it is related to the DVD - but I do think that Disney keeps a LOT of marketing information on all their customers: zip code (which provides income information for your area), number of visits, where you stay, whether or not you use Magical Express, how much you spend, etc. etc. etc. (whether or not you have the Disney Visa). Those Disney Marketers are SMART. You know they compile all that data - and have huge computer programs that generate codes and discounts... I'd bet demographics have EVERYTHING to do with it (ie, what state you live in, type of community, whether you are a homeowner or not, etc.).

:thumbsup2

I seem to get most pin codes that are released and we go once or twice a year most years. When I heard about the new 40% off pin code and I hadn't received it I went on to disneyworld.com and updated my email address as my business email had changed and within a week I received the code but by regular mail. Not sure if updating my email address had anything to do with receiving the code or if would have received it anyway. The strange thing is that the code came addressed to me but it had my middle name instead of my first name. I'm not sure how they would even have that info.
