Do you believe in love at first sight?

Another logical thinker here who says, no. ;)
IMO, you can see someone, think that youre in love, then find out they are an ax murderer. Or on a more reasonable level, find out you have nothing in common, cant get along, or just dont like the peron they are.
Yes, sometimes it does work out for the best which is great, but I dont see how anyone can truly love someone they dont know at all.

For 40 years I laughed at the notion of love at first sight...thought it was silly and illogical, created by people who lead far to fanciful lives and need a good dose of reality.

The only time I had experienced anything close to it was the birth of my daughter...and I'm pretty sure it wasn't the hormones raging through my body at that time because I still feel about her now as I did the first second I laid eyes on her. Totally smitten.

Fast forward to my 41st year. Divorced, single mom, dating but really not enjoying it. I go on one last date before swearing it off entirely because the whole process is way too draining and unenjoyable. Only going because my friend insists that this is the person for me and I should go into with an open mind because he doesn't physically look like the type I like but is my match in every other way.

Walk into the restaurant and there he is. Definitely not anyone I would pick out on my own. But for some reason my entire body reacts and I can't help but thinking to myself "Wow...I could like this guy" and he hadn't even said hello yet. And after 10 minutes of talking with him I knew he was the one I had waited for my whole life.

Even weirder...he always felt the same way as I did about "love at first sight" and says he saw me walk in and said to himself "I want to spend the rest of my life with this woman."

So I guess now I have to believe :)

I think if you are open to love at first sight, it can happen and it can work.

When you are drawn to someone, I think you see beyond looks. (IMHO) It's the way they carry themselves, whether it be walking across a room or interacting with someone. Some people have a good spirit and it's nice when people can recognize it.

Anyway, love at first sight worked for me. :D

Yep, I believe it! It was love at first site with my DH (July will be 21 years). I was actually engaged to another man when I first laid eyes on my hubby! :earseek:

11 years ago I started a new job working with BF at the time....Day 2 on job, I first saw...looked again...and fell immediatley HEAD OVER HEELS IN LOVE:love:...with the man I woke up to this morning! DH and I both believe in love at first sight...it happend to us!

True love at first sight? Unlikely in my opinion. I have no doubt though that lust at first sight can turn (maybe often turns) into the real deal. It likely would be hard to distinguish between the two.

For those of you who have experienced it, how much of the experience was chemical and how much of it was spiritual (like your soul found its mate and you knew it from the first moment)?

Interesting topic!

Awww, aprincessmom, your story made me cry. Really. I'm sitting here like a big baby crying at your happy story - I'm so happy you have found someone. :) You and Emma are such a sweet family, I am sure your guy is a great compliment to you both. :)

I was 11 when I first laid eyes on my husband, and I told my mother that was the boy I would someday marry. To say she was a bit alarmed would be putting it mildly. Now whether I was actually in love or not, I'm thinking not -- first of all, what does an 11 year old know about love, and how can you love someone you don't know? But there was a certain karma or whatever that made me know he was the one. It wasn't until many years later that I realized how deeply I loved him. I may have thought I loved him in teh younger years, but I really don't think I understood what love really entailed.

So no, I guess I don't believe in love at first sight....... Strong feelings of fate and "this was meant to be", but not love. :)

For us it was an instant physical/chemical/mental/spirtual sense of coming home (if I can borrow that from Sleepless in Seattle!)

I loved him and didn't want to -- I had been in a relationship for four years when I met him. But whatever that pull was, it was undeniable. I made myself sick over trying to fight it.

He proposed five days after we met.

Anniversary #13 is August 24th.

my DH fell in love with me at first sight
he says he knew he wanted to marry me from the moment he laid eyes on me
we are married over 9 yrs now
oh he had to wait 5 yrs to get a first date with me

"...Yes I'm certain that it happens all the time. What do you see when you turn out the light?";)

I think love grows over time. I think there can be strong attraction at first sight however.

Let me throw in another thumbs-up for Lust at First Sight. :)
