It would be fun if they addressed this sort of thing in the new "La Brea" TV series.
The tunnels I’m referring to are said to be able to reach the ocean and back to the lake somehow. So I guess Champ can breath in salt and fresh water? It would explain why he only seems to appear when it’s Spring through Fall. It would also explain how its population is never seen. Maybe that period of the year is its mating/birthing season?

Native Americans from the area had sworn to the Europeans that they had seen these creatures for centuries and that they had been attacked by them while fishing. I don’t think this would be something they would make up.

I love cryptozoology, so yes I believe. For those of you who don't, think about this. Gorillas, pandas and kangaroos were once all considered cryptids or mythical.
This is true, though either a new species is revealed or there's a point where the evidence runs out and certain cryptids could be considered fruitless claims. Or both!

Like Bigfoot. A cluster of supposed Bigfoot hair samples turned out to be from various animals that were recognizable under close scrutiny. (Imagine making a carrot-banana smoothie and expecting scientists to believe that you discovered a new fruit.)

However, in the process the scientist who debunked the sample ended up discovering an unknown species of bear.

Nothing is impossible and it has also been said that Lake Champlain was once a saltwater sea (much larger) it is possible to have an evolutionary possibility of some strange type of prehistoric left over living creature. But, not likely! Another possibility is that Champlain is a very deep lake in areas and in those deep areas live very large sturgeons that occasionally clear the service of the lake searching for food. That scenario has been heard often.

It appears that the description of Champ is that of a dragon like creature that comes to the surface to breath. It seems logical if that is the case it would have a much higher witness rate than what has been reported. The deepest part of the lake is near the Burlington, Vermont area which is also the highest population area, so it would be likely that many views would have been seen if that was the case.

To be fair Native Americans have claimed to have seen the thing since they settled the area. They have drawn pictures of Champ in cave paintings (at least that is what I have read in some articles). 🤷‍♂️

Champ is also noted for its swimming speed as well. I do fear that if it is proven true that it exists then some kid will find a baby one and try to keep it as a pet. Because that goes so well in the Jurassic Park movies. 🤦‍♂️
