Do you bake your cut out cookies in advance?

I know this may sound crazy but I am going to go ahead and make all of my Christmas cut out cookies now and freeze them. Then they will be ready to "thaw" and we can frost and decorate them later on -- closer to Christmas.

It seems for us anyway, we are swamped from Thankgiving on.....school programs, school party, DH's work party, etc. I figure if I can get some of the baking part done now, the major part of the "mess" will be over with and we can decorate later as we need them. We need two dozen one week for a school party and DH wants to take some to work but not until the third week and then some for friends, etc. It never ends!

Anyone else do this or am I just a freak? :rotfl2:

I make initial cut outs of my kids' names for their birthdays, so when I make the Christmas cut outs, I make my kids' initial cookies, bake and freeze them until birthday times, then I frost them. Growing up we did this all the time...triple the choc chip cookie recipe, some for now and some for later. :teeth:

So if you're a freak, then you have some company. :smooth:

It's great to have company!

When I make the cut out cookies for Valentine's Day, I go ahead and cut out the rabbit shaped ones for Easter and freeze them! I can't believe I'm actaully admitting this........... but it saves time! :rotfl:

Any time saving tip especially at this time of the year is always appreciated! I've been known to freeze foods for later use. It is so much easier when you're in a time crunch.

HELLO what a fab idea!!! I just did 288 circles for a baseball fund raiser dinner. All us Moms had to bake......I could have done my Christmas cut outs and baked them too....oh my goodness I never even thought of that. What a great thing to do next time around. Thanks for sharing that tip!

I used to make all of my Christmas cookies in September and October and freeze them. Cut-out cookies can be time consuming and make a big mess (or am I the only one who makes a mess?) so I liked getting it all done ahead of time.

Of course I also like to have my presents wrapped and ready to mail (with cards) by Dec. 1.

Great Idea! I think I'm going to do that, too.

My daughter loves helping me cut out cookies, but it does get very time consuming...making the dough, cutting them out, baking them, decorating them. If I break up the process, then I think we'll enjoy making them even more.

Thanks for the idea!
